Static maps are used to convey an article's regions, districts, cities, important points of interests – you get the gist of it. However, many static maps can take hours to make, even days, and that's what star static maps are for – showcasing the best maps on Wikivoyage.
These maps should ideally provide a good starting point for new mapmakers. A general rule of thumb is that these maps show the most geographically important features, including bodies of water, in addition to roads, important cities and other destinations and clear boundaries. Maps also should not be too crowded.
Nominations take place on Wikivoyage:Star static map nominations and are held for a period of 21 days. If promoted, the map will then be added onto one of the four galleries listed on /Galleries (or see the § Galleries section below).
If you are looking to make a good map, try following the guidelines listed on Wikivoyage:Star static map nominations#Nominating and Wikivoyage:Regions map Expedition#Standards. Feel free to use these maps as a baseline or a guide towards eventually slapping a star on your future maps.
