Assiniboia is a town of 2,400 people (2016) in Southwestern Saskatchewan, Canada. Assiniboia serves primarily an agricultural-based trading area. Its wide main street offers a variety of shops and stops.

editSettlement by people of English, French, Romanian, Scottish and Scandinavian descent began in 1913 when 980 lots were put up for sale by the Canadian Pacific Railway put 980 lots up for sale when it built a branch line through southern Saskatchewan. The town's name comes from the former district of Assiniboia, in which the town is located.
During the Great Depression, town officials employed out-of-work men to construct the Assiniboia sewer system, but the town could not afford to operate it until 1948.

editAssiniboia is about 105 km (65 mi) south of Moose Jaw and 100 km (62 mi) north of the U.S. border on Highway 2; it is about 175 km (109 mi) southwest of Regina. There is a small, private airport located north of town.
The Assiniboia Airport (which was RCAF Station Assiniboia during World War II) is 6 miles (11 km; 6.9 mi) north of Assiniboia. It has no commercial service.
