Fishing boats for rent on a beach in Matinhos

Matinhos is a small town in Coastal Paraná.

Understand

edit

The colonization of Matinhos began in the middle of the 19th century, when the Carijós Indians inhabited the Paraná coast, discovered in 1820 by Frenchman Augusto de Saint'Hilaire. Its first name was Matinho, the name of the river in the town, and its first settlers were Portuguese and Italians, who founded a farming colony. In 1927, the Estrada do Mar highway was inaugurated, connecting Paranaguá to Praia de Leste, which brought various families, mostly Germans, to settle in Matinhos.
