Singling out Pennsylvania as competition edit

I'd added "Pennsylvania started opening its own casinos in 2006, slashing Atlantic City’s annual casino revenue from $5.2bn in 2006 to $2.86bn by 2013. Four of the twelve Atlantic City casinos closed in 2014 (Atlantic Club in January, Showboat and Revel at the end of the summer, Trump Plaza on Sept 16, 2014)." citing [1]. This was partially reverted with " (→‎History: It's unfair to single out Pennsylvania)".

Is it (or isn't it) fair to single out Pennsylvania on the basis that the Associated Press news wire pieces do exactly that? I'm used to WP, where swearing anything on a stack of books, newspapers or other independent reliable sources immediately makes it undisputed gospel truth, but Wikivoyage is not an encyclopaedia. I think it's fair. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:32, 8 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
I think there are a lot of other factors involved, although I am surprised to find that Pennsylvania is now the second-largest gambling state. A lot of gamblers are staying close to home thanks to the proliferation of state-run and Native American casinos in many states other than Pennsylvania. True, but as Joisey goes, Atlantic City is w-a-y downstate and therefore is part of the Philly market, not part of the NYC-sprawl around Newark. Pennsylvania is having an effect because it's nearby. K7L (talk) 01:48, 9 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Sure, no doubt. But is the decline in AC due exclusively to Pennsylvanites staying home and vacationers choosing PA over NJ? Or are people from all states staying closer to home for gambling purposes? Powers (talk) 17:10, 9 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Not exclusively, and if anyone is using that word or similar words, that is not fair. Ikan Kekek (talk) 00:36, 10 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
I think stating that the opening of Pennsylvania's casinos slashed AC's casino revenue would qualify. Powers (talk) 19:57, 10 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Do you disagree that it's accurate and can be cited in respectable sources? Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:42, 10 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I don't believe the cited source supports the wording of the statement, and I also think it's unnecessary to single out Pennsylvania. It's sufficient to state that gambling revenue is down. Powers (talk) 23:40, 10 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
WCAU ("we're crap and unwatchable", NBC 10 Philly) is blaming PA NY DE MD as the competing states, so I've put that version in. Presumably PA can live with that? K7L (talk) 16:06, 16 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
I can't speak for Pennsylvania; I just don't understand why it's important to blame specific states for the downfall in AC casino revenue. Powers (talk) 17:54, 16 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
CBC is saying PA DE and MD are the competing states and that City Hall is near bankruptcy.[2] K7L (talk) 21:43, 22 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
