Train station listing
editThe listing is currently in "see". Shouldn't it rather be in "get in"? Hobbitschuster (talk) 00:48, 23 November 2017 (UTC)
- That info could be in a listing in "Get in", or it could stay in "See", as is Amsterdam Centraal's listing in Amsterdam/Binnenstad. Ikan Kekek (talk) 02:03, 23 November 2017 (UTC)
- But the overwhelming primary function of a train station is for transport, isn't it? And that's what most travellers will care more about than its architecture, won't they? Hobbitschuster (talk) 11:27, 23 November 2017 (UTC)
- They might care about both, though. Don't you agree that if you got to Amsterdam by plane, you could still enjoy seeing the train station? Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:14, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
- Sure, but I would expect information about the train station - any information - to be in "get in" and not in "see". Because being pretty to look at is without a doubt a secondary purpose of a train station. Hobbitschuster (talk) 23:16, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
- If there's a single listing, yes. Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:22, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
- Why should there be more than one listing for the same place? Especially given geodata. Hobbitschuster (talk) 03:23, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
- No reason to duplicate that. My feeling on this one is probably like yours: I'd suggest a "Get in" listing, and at the end of the listing, I'd include information about the train station as a sight. But I think the "See" listing for Amsterdam Centraal is proper because it's not so much a way to get into Binnenstad, but into Amsterdam itself. Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:10, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
- Maybe we could distill a general rule from this... In the case of districted cities, a listing that is relevant for whole city (an embassy, train station etc.) should be in the main article with its primary function and may be in the district article with its secondary function of "prettiness". In the case of non-districted cities, the secondary function should be mentioned in the single listing in the section according to the primary function. - That makes sense to me. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:31, 27 November 2017 (UTC)
- Should I put this as a proposal at Wikivoyage Talk:Listings? Hobbitschuster (talk) 15:36, 27 November 2017 (UTC)
