Talk:Blanc-Sablon
Is this page redundant?
editForteau seems to cover all listings in Blanc-Sablon, and some of these listings are repeated in both articles. Should this page be merged to Forteau given that you can only access Blanc-Sablon via Labrador? @Ground Zero, Veillg1:? --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 11:52, 16 June 2022 (UTC)
- @Ground Zero - Thanks for your question. Blanc-Sablon is a municipality in the province of Quebec, and is part of the "Le Golfe-du-Saint-Laurent Regional County Municipality" in the Côte-Nord administrative region. Forteau is a neighboring municipality of Blanc-Sablon but in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador (sector Labrador). In summary, Blanc-Sablon cannot be linked to Forteau in Wikivoyage.
- I have a question derived from this topic. The toponym "Blanc-Sablon" uses the hyphen in French. According to the "Commission de toponymie du Québec" (toponymy commission of Quebec), the English version of the toponym should also use the hyphen. The title of the article on Wikipedia (English version) uses the hyphen. However, the title of the article (in English) on Wikivoyage does not use the hyphen. How to proceed so that the hyphen is applied in the title of the article (in English) on Wikivoyage? Veillg1 (talk) 12:20, 16 June 2022 (UTC)
- SHB2000, I don't think I agree with merging the articles. While municipal legal boundaries don't matter to travellers, and so need not be reflected in a travel guide, I think that having articles crossing provincial boundaries could be confusing.
- Veillg1, would you be willing to help by removing the Blanc-Sablon listings from Forteau now that you have created an article for Blanc-Sablon? Also, please remove the postal codes that you put in the listings. And the addresses of municipal offices in Go Next. We do not include these things in English Wikivoyage. I have removed them from your articles so many times already. And yes, Blanc-Sablon should have a hyphen in it. I will move the article to the correct name if you are willing to clean up these articles. Thank you. Ground Zero (talk) 14:51, 16 June 2022 (UTC)
- @Ground Zero Understandable. I'll admit I didn't check the history of Forteau; it used to be named Blanc Sablon-Forteau, but it seems the scope was broadened to just Labrador. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 07:58, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
@Veillg1: by creating this article without removing the Blanc-Sablon content from Forteau, you have created overlap that will confuse readers. If the Blanc-Sablon content is updated while Forteau is not, Wikivoyage will be telling readers different things about Blanc-Sablon in different articles. Also, you have added a bunch of stuff that we do not include in Wikivoyage articles. I have asked before you leave that out. Please work with us instead of just "doing your own thing" and pushing other editors off. Ground Zero (talk) 14:26, 18 June 2022 (UTC)
- I did a first attempt in removing all listings that were in Blanc-Sablon, but it's 0:36 here and I might've missed something though especially given this is an area where I don't know a lot about. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 14:37, 18 June 2022 (UTC)
- I appreciate your efforts, SHB2000, but this really is a job that would be better done by Veiil1g. Ground Zero (talk) 15:01, 18 June 2022 (UTC)
- Following your suggestions/observations, a revision of the content of the "Blanc-Sablon" and "Forteau" articles has been carried out. It is true that the localities of this isolated area of the North Shore (Quebec)/Labrador are interdependent; but they belong to two separate provincial jurisdictions of Canada. Blanc-Sablon is a necessary road passage between Forteau and the island of Newfoundland. Each locality deserves its article on Wikivoyage. The "fusion" message at the end of the "Blanc-Sablon" article seems totally inappropriate to me; nevertheless, it made it possible to improve the article on Forteau. Additional photos would be desirable. Veillg1 (talk) 12:09, 20 June 2022 (UTC)
