Listings issues

edit

Per WV:Boring, I would suggest not providing templated listings for branches of chains like Applebee's, though they could be mentioned generally.

I also remain unclear about how we are treating articles for these big towns (really, sub-counties) vs. articles about villages such as Stony Brook and Port Jefferson. I don't thing it's appropriate to have listings in what is effectively a regional article (this one) and also bottom-level articles. So shall we merge all the articles for component villages and hamlets to this article and do the same thing with other town articles throughout Long Island? If not, how should we treat these town articles? Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:49, 3 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

I agree about the chains, though Long Island's only Denny's gave me enough of a chuckle to perhaps keep it.
I've been upmerging village article only if they have fewer than three items, keeping the more substantial ones for now. It's not an ideal situation but I figure if the articles already exist and are useful, I don't want to be overly disruptive. I think the proper framework is that the towns would fit as "city" articles, while villages are more like "district" articles. Antony-22 (talk) 20:32, 3 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
That's an unusual setup. Why is that better than treating these as region articles and the village and hamlet articles as city articles? But besides, if we were to treat these as districted cities, that still would mean that there shouldn't be any detailed, templated listings at the city level. See the New York City article or the articles for districted boroughs like Manhattan and Brooklyn for a basis of comparison. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:46, 3 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
