Type of article edit
So far, this is no kind of article, as its template is incomplete. Should this be a city article like Khajuraho, should this be a park article like Angkor Wat, Prambanan and Borobudur, or should it be an itinerary article? My guess is it shouldn't be a city article, but I've never been to Odisha (whereas I've been to all the other places I mentioned except Angkor). Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:49, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
- Dear Ikan Kekek it is not a city. Nor it is like archaeological parks like Angkor Wat, Prambanan and Borobudur, but it is a collection of 3 major archaeological sites along with a minor site. So I think it should come as an itinerary article. Moreover, Ratngiri is the only place which has a hotel, so most tourist visit Diamond Triangle as a day trip from Bhubaneswar. I have changed it to the itinerary article and placed it under the Asian itinerary. I have also made the same changes for Sikkim Silk Route article. - An itinerary requires a route. See Wikivoyage:Itinerary article template. If there's no standard, recognized route, there's no itinerary, and this article has to use a different kind of template even if none of the other types of articles are 100% accurate in terms of their categorization. - The article isn't about how to get in, so no, that doesn't count. Look at any other itinerary article, or in particular, star itinerary articles at Category:Star articles, which would include Along the Magnificent Mile, Loop Art Tour, Historic Churches of Buffalo's East Side and Yaowarat and Phahurat Tour, and others in Category:Guide articles, such as A seaside stroll in Helsinki, Breaking Bad Tour, Dalton Highway, Route 1 (Iceland) and Route 66. - So what would you suggest, separate article for all the four places? That can be done. But the places combined are known as Diamond Triangle just like Golden Triangle (India) in Nort India. But the places of Golden triangle are big places, each with independent tourist attraction. So shall I make separate articles for each of the four places? So, we can choose between city, rural area, park, travel topic and itinerary. The latter are not well suited. Then let's see how the former differ.
- Understand is important and allowed in all three.
- Get in and Get around: required in all three.
- Fees and permits: required in parks, not used in the others. If there are common entrance fees and regulations, the section is useful. If regulations differ between sites, they are better described separately.
- See and Do: required in all three, can be combined.
- Learn, Work: optional in all three.
- Buy: optional in all three.
- Eat and Sleep: required in all three
- Drink: optional in all three.
- Stay safe and Stay healthy: optional in all three.
- Respect, Connect, Cope: optional in all three
- Go next: optional in all three
The only mandatory difference is Fees and permits. The section can be short, leaving details to the individual sites and listings.
When I think a chosen template is less than ideal, I usually look at the other templates for ideas on what to add. That could be done also here.
Itineraries require a fixed route (with possible variations). Here the route is not the point, so bad fit. In addition, most itinerary listings are supposed to be also in a destination article. Travel topics give little guidance on the structure of the article, and should mostly be used when no destination template is a good fit. No need to use either template here.
My feeling is that you visit the area in a similar manner and with a similar mindset as you would visit a park with a few important natural sights surrounded by tourist services (when you don't intend to hike), not the way you would visit a city or town. Is the park template a good fit?
I suppose at least See should be divided in subsections by site. The sites should each be described in Understand, but details should probably be left to the other sections (mainly to See, it seems). Nothing hinders the kind of description now in Go as introduction to the See subsection on each site, but details (or e.g. the museums) could be split out to listings.
