Offshore barges

edit

I assume Diving the Cape Peninsula and False Bay/Offshore Barges should be linked from this article somewhere – is that right? @Pbsouthwood: would you be able to help with this? —Granger (talk · contribs) 15:03, 17 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Mx. Granger:, Well spotted! I had completely lost track of that site. It is now listed in the proper place, as you have noticed. Cheers, • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 15:40, 17 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Split some time

edit

The page will have to be split sometime. The area is in the process of being surveyed by multibeam sonar to high resolution, which will take a year or so to complete. The work is a combined effort of the SA Council for Geoscience, who are doing the north of False Bay, and Wreckless Marine, who are doing the south part. Theoretically the SA Navy is also to do part of the bay, but it is not known whether they have started yet. Reef patches are being discovered faster than they can be dived, but as feedback comes from divers, new sites will be named and described here. There will probably be a lot more sites eventually, so I expect to split the page by the regions: Dive sites of Table Bay and approaches, Dive sites of the Cape Peninsula west coast, Dive sites of the Cape Peninsula east coast (or Dive sites of False Bay west coast), Dive sites of False Bay offshore and approaches, and Dive sites of False Bay east coast. There will be a lot of renaming of dive site sub-pages as they will become sub-pages of the new regions. I will probably start by splitting out the offshore sites, and see how that turns out.

Any comments and suggestions can be made here. This will be new ground for Wikivoyage regarding structure for dive site pages. • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 02:30, 24 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Splitting has been done. This sub-article cannot be deleted while the others exist as it is required for attribution in terms of the CC-by-sa license. I will try to think of something useful to do with it. • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 16:18, 23 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Convert this page to a list of dive sites

edit

I think I will trim this page down to a list of dive sites with their positions. This will be useful to dive-boat skippers using mobile phones to get drop positions. • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 16:38, 23 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

I have started. • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 07:03, 17 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Basic conversion is done. I am considering whether alphabetical order would be more useful, as the regional lists already do the geographical order. • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 09:41, 18 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
