Wikivoyage is a travel guide, not an encyclopedia or a history book. Because East Bengal is effectively now Bangladesh, redirecting to that article is more useful for travellers in the 21st century than information about the definition of "East Bengal" used during the British Raj. People who were alive during the Raj and still remember the term from that era are (a) mostly likely aware that Bangladesh now exists, and (b) very unlikely to be travelling anywhere. A 17-year-old from 1947 would be 91 years old today. Ground Zero (talk) 12:42, 5 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

I would start an RfD, considering that:
  1. This was made by a person who has a good reputation of keeping this an encyclopedia
  2. Unnecessary redirect

RfD? I added a merge tag to the article. There is no substantive trave content here. It really is historical content: I don't think "East Bengal" is used today in any context, so I don't think I am proposing to change regions. Ground Zero (talk) 12:55, 5 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Which is why I think it should be deleted. Because such redirects if connected to Wikidata would end up coming on Wikipedia's sidebar, and not really wanted for a historical region. It isn't connected, but it'd eventually get connected. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 13:02, 5 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Good point. I'll go along with deletion then. Ground Zero (talk) 16:34, 5 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Return to "East Bengal" page.
