Merger

edit

Wikivoyage articles should be divided up according to what makes most sense for travellers -- we do not have to follow municipal boundaries. Does it make sense to merge this community, which has two points of interest and a place to sleep, with a town 20 km away? I would say 'no'. Ground Zero (talk) 01:45, 11 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

We usually divide things to yield articles of reasonable size, as one of our stated goals is to produce a guide which the voyager can print and pack into carry-on baggage. Depending on its geography, an entire page for a town of 148 people with nowhere to eat seems a bit odd? K7L (talk) 04:20, 11 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
What's the other place being merged with it? --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 04:41, 11 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Again, check the article template... ARR8 (talk) 04:52, 11 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
What WV:wiaa says about villages is that do not get an article if they meet this test: "Tiny or sparsely populated villages and hamlets that have no cultural or natural attractions, or hospitality venues." East Coulee has two points of interest (one of which has a cafe), and a place to sleep. This is not one of the shorter articles in Wikivoyage, so the argument about printing off a copy is stretched beyond credibility here. I'm voting do not merge unless someone cones up with a better argument. Ground Zero (talk) 08:30, 11 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I see now. The plan is to merge this with Drumheller. Absolutely not; the small communities of Lehigh, Cambria, and Rosedale come between Drumheller and East Coulee, according to OpenStreetMap. So I agree and vote do not merge. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 14:45, 11 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
I don't see the point of having a separate article for East Coolee. The two attractions aren't prominent and it's normally listed as something to do as part of a visit to Drumheller. Having driven through it a number of years ago, that seems a pretty reasonable assessnebt. I think the best way to handle it is to put it in a Nearby section for Drumheller. -Shaundd (talk) 18:18, 11 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Well, you've got to remember though that there are some other towns between Drumheller and East Coulee. We're not talking about a suburb of Drumheller. Also, where would the remaining listings go? In the Drumheller article, which could potentially be misleading because they are 20 km (12 mi) and therefore violate ttcf? But thanks for adding a few cents to the discussion anyway. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 20:37, 11 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
It would be possible to create a section like Cobourg#Nearby with a list of outlying villages and the one or two things to see in each. I'm not sure whether that solution fits here, as Lehigh, Cambria, and Rosedale may well be red herrings if we have no listings for anything in any of them. ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────In the Cobourg example, ziua there are tow "nearby" places, ziua each composed of only one listing. For Easy Coulee, we have three listings, "get in" information, and a small "Understand" section. This is a lot of information to stuff into a "Nearby" section unless you're planning to purge some of the information. And why would we want less information on this small town? Agreed. The article is best not merged. It has enough content to be its own article. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 15:35, 12 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
In that case, this article and Drumheller#See should not both be listing "Atlas Coal Mine" and "Willow Creek Hoodoo Interpretive Trail". Most of what's on this page merely overlaps and duplicates content already in the Drumheller page. K7L (talk) 18:53, 12 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Done Actually, "Willow Creek Hoodoo Interpretive Trail" is not the same as "Hoodoo Trail" and therefore there was only one duplicate listing. But I've moved both of the listings into the East Coulee article because they're closer to East Coulee than Drumheller and merged the Willow Creek Trail and the Hoodoo Trail into one listing. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 19:05, 12 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Return to "East Coulee" page.
