Removed Hostel Happy entry in Sleep

There was an entry for some sort of sailing hostel in the Sleep section claiming it would be in Clarkes Court Bay and available for 2006. I am in Clarkes Court Bay myself at the moment and there is no such boat here nor has anyone ever heard of it.

there is no Mama´s anymore so I erased it...... please people at more accommodation and restaurants in the list...

Comment: Paradise Bay Resort & Spa is open. Thr hurricane delayed the opening but that should not be a reason to delete.

Country and Island and Town articles

I moved them, to Grenada (island). The article for the whole country shouldn't have specific listings of hotels and restaurants; they should be in the more specific region or city articles. - (WT-en) Todd VerBeek 23:24, 6 June 2007 (EDT)

But that is crasy, nobody will take a look under island, do you know how smal the other two are?? Petit Martinique only have 1 Guesthouse and why is there the area sleep and eat. Two split Grenada in three islands is stupid....and by the way the Grenada Accommodation Guide is for all three islands!!!!!!!!!!

The "sleep" and "eat" sections are to provide information about the kinds of accommodations and the cuisine of the country. See the articles for other countries for examples. If a country is small, but has two cities that are physically separate from each other, and each have places to sleep, eat, etc. we create a separate article for each city. See Andorra, for example, which isn't much larger than Grenada, or Liechtenstein which is even smaller. The fact that the "cities" in this case are islands even more reason to create separate articles for each of them, such as for Saint-Pierre and Miquelon. Maybe Petit Martinique is too small to warrant its own article, and should be included in Carriacou. And maybe we dont need separate articles for both Carriacou and Hillsborough. But I don't see any need to squeeze everything about three inhabited islands and several towns into a single article. - (WT-en) Todd VerBeek 17:22, 8 June 2007 (EDT)

There is no reason to separate these three islands, nobody will find the information for accommodation or cuisine. Try and look at other travelsides. There is not one whow is seperating Grenada and carrioacou. I would suggest visit Grenada first and then make your own picture.

Some of this article is really good. I do find that the situation is confusing for those of us that do not know the islands. The advantage of breaking out the cities is that if one is going to go to (say) Grenville, to see some attraction, one would also know what restaurants and lodgings are there. thanks (WT-en) OldPine the problem is most people choose Grenada as an destination and will then look around. Remember Grenada is realy small and we do not have so mutch tourism. I looked at the statistik of one of the listed hotels, and before (WT-en) Todd VerBeek moved the "sleep" entrys to Grenada (island) the side had about 50 hits a month coming from these side. After it went down to 0 (zero). That tells you people do not find the information they are looking for. (WT-en) Theo 17:33, 8 July 2007 (EDT)

It seems silly to me to say that people can't find the information. The links are right there in blue to click on. Many of our travelers are not the usual tourists. They want to know about places like Carriacou, and we want to have good coverages of those places. The country page can still list attractions and information about lodging areas. It might be silly but true. Maybe then we should at least put another link to Grenada (island) and to Carriacou at the Grenada Side inside of the sleeping and eating area. Like :

For accommodation in Grenada please visit the Grenada (island) side.

For accommodation in Carriacou please visit the Carriacou side.

Yes, that'd be fine I think, Theo. Ideally we'd get to the town level with both restaurants and lodging, but I don't think that that would be for Grenada (island). Bermuda has a similar problem... there's not really enough to fill up an article for each parish. Have a look at how that is handled. (WT-en) OldPine 18:36, 10 July 2007 (EDT)

Suggested housekeeping: The listed area of "Grand Anse" is a very nice resort/beach area on the main island. But the link takes us to a jurisdiction for Haiti.

Wikivoyage coverage of other caribbean islands includes colleges and universities

Why didn't Grenada have St. George's University School of Medicine. It's the first offshore medical school of the caribbean. AUC and Ross were copycats essentially - though also decent caribbean medical schools. A huge part of the island's economy and growth has resulted from having a large medical university which has now increased to become a veterinary school, tourism college. The school serves the island and offers scholarships to native Grenadians. I went to St. George's university school of medicine and as a result fell in love with the island and it's people. Grenada is a really special place. The rest of the wikivoyage article is excellent. I especially agree with the comment about how formal the Grenadians are when it comes to employment.

That's been added to "Learn", only 14 years later, as the anonymous commentator of 2008 was content to complain rather than remedy the lack. Grahamsands (talk) 14:42, 9 January 2023 (UTC)

Carriacou

Hillsborough (Grenada) is the only notable settlement on this small island. The page has a template requesting that content therefore moves to the island page, but it's not been acted on. The request (date not apparent) still seems sensible so I intend to move content and merge the page, but am flagging here in case of other thoughts. Some years back there was an attempt to create a second resort strip south at Tyrell Bay, but it flopped and the island remains as small and sleepy as ever. Removal of cities and other destinations lists

@Grahamsands: what is the purpose of removing the cities and other destination lists as you did in Special:Diff/4614092 and Special:Diff/4614093, and what has that got to do with the static map? --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 21:45, 4 February 2023 (UTC)

Simply that they appeared redundant and duplication at this level. The main towns are mentioned in the regional list just above, to which I added Ronde and KeJ. They're obvious on the static map so the markers weren't doing anything. But click on any of the islands, there they all are listed and marked on the dynamic maps. There's been a problem of duplication between Grenada-nation and Grenada-island.

Note the spelling of the third island is PETITE Martinique, so "Petit" was incorrect. I've just tweaked the pgname and it doesn't seem worth the labour of a move, though it leaves some inconsistencies. Grahamsands (talk) 12:49, 5 February 2023 (UTC)

@Grahamsands: late response, but fair enough. I was actually thinking if it would be more beneficial if Grenada (island) was merged here leaving no bottom-level region articles beneath this one, but it may overload this article. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 12:09, 10 February 2023 (UTC)

I considered doing so, but decided it would overload. The discussion above in 2007 was partly around that, and since then, non-duplicated but relevant content has grown on all related pages. Grahamsands (talk) 13:38, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
