Fuji over Kamakura pic

edit

Fuji is exceptionally clear in this photo, but it's a fluke, not a fake -- see eg. this for lots of technically less competent renditions of precisely the same scene at slightly different angles. (WT-en) Jpatokal 10:54, 13 July 2009 (EDT)

Sorry, there is just no way. I've been to this beach and to Mt. Fuji in person. Even from the town at the base of Fuji it does not appear this big, it is not even visible at all from this beach. I'd maybe buy that on a really clear day you could see Fuji way in the distance, but there's no way it goes from as huge and clear as it is in these photos to totally nonexistent based on a "fluke". —The preceding comment was added by (WT-en) 173.75.5.123 (talkcontribs)
Sure it can be, just pull out a longer focal length lens; the link above has plenty of examples. You can get equally dramatic shots of Mt. Rainier from Seattle, and it's about the same distance away. -- (WT-en) D. Guillaime 23:42, 23 April 2010 (EDT)
The link you provided even says "Handheld single exposure with a long lens, shot from the South Beach at Discovery Park. Makes it look like that little hill is in our back yard ;-)" Pretty much admitting that it's a photographic trick, should we really be using trick photography as example photos on wikivoyage? —The preceding comment was added by (WT-en) 173.75.5.123 (talkcontribs)
If you're honestly claiming that a handheld camera's zoom lens is trick photography and should be removed, then we'd probably lose every photo on the site that wasn't taken with a fixed-focal Polaroid. It's certainly no trick in practice: through a standard set of human eyeballs, Rainier truly does dominate the Seattle skyline like that on a clear day (95 km distant); Fuji's 75 km from Kamakura, only a few hundred meters shorter, and has that lovely dramatic cone shape to boot. Still more than far enough away to disappear in even moderate haze, but easily resulting in a beautiful and unmodified photo in the right weather. — (WT-en) D. Guillaime 23:20, 9 May 2010 (EDT)

Get Around Hike

edit

I did the hike described in the get around section today, it's an excellent walk. I added a few more details about how to get to the start of the hike via the JR Line and that you don't need to pay the temple fee to get access to where the hike starts. Suggested banner 1.

Here is a banner suggestion. /Yvwv (talk) 03:50, 22 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

It's always good to record the existing banner, in case it's changed:

I agree that your suggestion is an improvement. Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:56, 22 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Suggested banner 2.
Second suggestion. /Yvwv (talk) 04:01, 22 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
I prefer your first suggestion, but let's see what other people think. Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:46, 22 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
I was hoping to find a picture from one of the famous temples (particularly the hydrangea ones) but was disappointingly surprised that there aren't many good pictures of Kamakura's temples. The reason I looked was because I kind of like the daibutsu image that is the first image which will need to be deleted if the banner features the same thing. With that said, I kind of like the third one with the cherry blossoms if the words don't obstruct the daibutsu. ChubbyWimbus (talk) 11:29, 22 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
The tricky part is to find pictures with an aspect ratio suitable for a banner. Most pictures of temples are close-up. Speaking of which, we should find a better page banner for Japan. The current one seems generic to Asia. /Yvwv (talk) 14:55, 22 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
I would prefer to keep the current banner because I also like the Daibutsu picture. That said, the proposals are better than the current one, and I prefer the first proposal because of the saturation (better color of the sky, more greenery, the statue feels more peaceful). — Fabimaru (talk) 18:53, 22 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
