To Usable/Guide

edit

If this article is not already Usable, what would make it so?

A map would help. Would it be sufficient for Guide status for this article? What else should be done to improve this article? One more thought:

"There are also several tour and limousine services offering packages for visiting distilleries."

Which tour and limousine services? I think the fact that self-tours by car would require a designated driver makes it legitimate to except guided distillery tour listings from the tour policy.

Any other ideas? Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:24, 9 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

I think for improvement to guide, it would probably require more explanation about bourbon and the little differences about each distillery, proper reviews too, at least to even pique the interest of a layperson. Also maybe why some distilleries are on the official tour and some are not (supposedly payment to the tourism board), and how the older establishments are different from the smaller craft places. Seems a bit strange to put Jefferson's Bourbon where it is. Should there be a lede section as well? -- torty3 (talk) 01:44, 16 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Yes, probably there should be. More pictures would be a good idea, too. Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:22, 16 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Torty, to address a couple of your points:
> more explanation about bourbon
I deliberately tried to avoid giving too much explanation about bourbon itself. For one, it's easy to look up info on Wikipedia if someone is curious. For two, pretty much every tour will explain about bourbon — you can pretty much counting on walking out of any tour knowing that bourbon requires 51% corn, that it must be aged for 2 years to be called "straight" bourbon, etc. Explaining all of that here feels like it would be robbing them of their thunder.
> the little differences about each distillery, proper reviews too, at least to even pique the interest of a layperson.
Agreed! Unfortunately I've only been to a few, so I can't make such improvements for all of them, but maybe I'll take a stab at this where I can.
> why some distilleries are on the official tour and some are not (supposedly payment to the tourism board)
Yeah, that's pretty much it.

That listing was added by User:JeffsBourbon, and is their only contribution, so it's a bit of a tout. However, it seems like it's in the right place. Standard WV policy is that within a section, sub-sections are used to group entries together (in this case, the Trail and the Craft Tour), and anything that doesn't belong to a subsection goes at the beginning of the section so that it's not under a subheading.

To be fair, User:JeffsBourbon's listing is laudably descriptive and non-touty in tone. Ikan Kekek (talk) 15:59, 19 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Brands and distilleries

edit

(should have put this on the Talk page earlier when I first found it)

I came across http://recenteats.blogspot.com/p/the-complete-list-of-american-whiskey.html which, although it's no longer being updated (as of May 2017), has a then-up-to-date list of almost all bourbon brands and where they're produced. Quite a lot of bourbon these days actually comes from a distillery in Indiana called MGP. --Bigpeteb (talk) 18:37, 18 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Title

edit

The title "Kentucky Bourbon Distilleries Tours" sounds like it's a company with the name "Kentucky Bourbon Distilleries". I think the title should be changed so it does not seem like this. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 20:48, 28 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Someone should correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think "bourbon", when referring to whiskey, needs to be capitalized. If so, the solution is simply to capitalize only the first word in the title, as is usual on Wikivoyage. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:59, 28 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
What about "Distilleries"? --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 23:30, 28 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Definitely doesn't need to be capitalized. Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:49, 29 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
I see. So the correct title should be "Kentucky bourbon distilleries tours". Thanks! --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 02:51, 29 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I think so. Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:00, 29 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
