Panadol

edit

Is there some specific reason to tell about this pain killer? Having a pain killer with you is handy, but is there some reason you need it in the park rather than anywhere, and is there some reason to choose this one? Otherwise I think it should be covered in Travel basics rather than here. I removed the instructions on dose. I suppose you should use pain killers you know from home, or painkillers got in a way such that you can trust to get correct instructions. --LPfi (talk) 09:34, 1 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • @LPfi: responding to you question, there is a high possibility of getting a head ache in the parts and in Sri Lanka, the only effective pain killer is-Panadol (This is NOT advertising, because it is the only safe pill). But if you misuse it, their might be side effects. Perhaps even death due to overdose of tablets. If it's still wrong, i wont oppose. By the way, thank for checking the article out. Really appreciate it. Arep Ticous 11:41, 1 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Maybe we can add this to the Article- Sri Lanka Arep Ticous 12:20, 1 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Is the headache from sun and heat? Then we should note that and link to the Hot weather and Sunburn articles, and possibly add advice there. I think having a high risk of getting headache means you are doing something wrong, and should be cautious rather than treat the symptoms. Indeed, I think it is risky to use a painkiller until you know why you have pain.
I know paracetamol (which is the effective substance in Panadol) is risky if overdosed, with less safety margins than most other easily available painkillers. I use it myself, although often by other brands. I can imagine why it would be safer than some alternatives, but I'd rather state those reasons explicitly, as they might not apply in all cases.
Here in Finland any medication package comes with usage instructions, which are more thorough, reliable and up to date than what we can provide. It is easy to make mistakes or leave something essential out (e.g. about the dose: not all Panadol pills are 500 mg). I suppose the discussion on dose is there because you don't get the usage instructions with the pills in Sri Lanka, or at least not in English (OK, also here you only get them in the national languages, but you can ask in the pharmacy). I still think it is better to cover that in an article like Travel basics, as you might get headache also not visiting the park, and then the sensible thing is to carry familiar pills, with instructions.

Well, you have a good point. I dont know about the new version, but the old panadol did not have the usage instructions Arep Ticous 16:31, 1 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
But what is causing headaches in the park, is it something you can avoid? Sun and heat, altitude sickness, or perhaps dengue fever or bites by poisonous snakes or spiders? In the latter cases it's probably best to get to a doctor rather than just take a painkiller. Ypsilon (talk) 16:51, 1 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Ypsilon: Oh no,no... that far beyond of what it is. Not snakes, of course not.Definitely not altitude sickness because its a flat land. It is probably because of the heat. There are methods of avoiding that, Are you suggesting that i should add how to avoid this? Arep Ticous 16:57, 1 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
OK, in that case I don't think we need any special warnings. Ypsilon (talk) 17:09, 1 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
😂 i see what you mean Arep Ticous 17:11, 1 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
