Talk:Lanark

The banner should really be updated. Bonnington Linn is closest to New Lanark, one of Lanark's landmarks would be best. I would suggest a photo representing Lanark Lanimers, but failing that one of the two nature reserves in Lanark (Cleghorn Glen and Cartland Craigs), Lanark Loch, St Nicholas Church, Castlebank Park, the Lindsay Institute or Smyllum House. If no-one objects I will try to either find a suitable free image of the Lanimers or take an picture of one of my suggested landmarks over the summer months which could be used as a banner. I think that suggestions for alternatives would be welcomed. There's not much in the Commons that would work in a 7:1 ratio. Ground Zero (talk) 01:36, 26 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have some old photos of the Lanimer parade but they're ten years old (I regularly attend the rest of the week's festivities but not the parade) and they're low quality so probably would look even worse in 7:1 ratio. I'll see what I can come up with over the next few months. I'm not sure where you're from, but if you're unfamiliar with Scottish weather it could be weeks or months before we get another day in Lanark where it isn't pouring with rain. There are multiple problems with this article more important than the banner but I don't have the time to properly fix it at the moment. The "soccer" (here we call it "football") team being described as "way, way down in the amateur leagues" seems overly judgemental. Lanark Lanimers is described rather inadequately and inaccurately (the "Marches" occur on a Monday and have done so since 1140, the parade occurs on a Thursday and started in the 1890s). As far as I am aware there are no accommodation providers remaining in Lanark, only the New Lanark Mill Hotel and Waterhouses in a nearby village. The bowling clubs are Lanark Thistle and Lanark, there is not a bowling club called Lanark Waterloo. The Girnin Dug faces in the opposite direction of St Nicholas Church. These are just the errors I noticed from a cursory read-through. I'll address all of these problems when I have time, but if any other editor wants to in the meantime I would be grateful. I have made some updates, but please make some more. One of the B&Bs is still open, as I was offered a room next month and it was reviewed this month. I last visited Lanark several years ago, so you local knowledge is very welcome. I hope that the weather is suitable for taking banner photos soon. AlasdairW (talk) 21:36, 26 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Return to "Lanark" page.
