Tour operators

Nearly the entire "Do" section of this article is a mass of undifferentiated links to tour operators — not terribly helpful to anyone. There's not a single one of them that complies with the tour policy, especially with the lack of any contact details, but I'd rather not wipe out the whole section if there's something useful in there... does anybody have even a slight familiarity with Manaus that could help improve the section rather than eliminate it? — (WT-en) D. I sure don't, but I'm wondering now, with the editing war that's taking place, whether the seeming participant and the competitors they're attacking should all be deleted. I can't think of another equally good solution. What's your opinion? (WT-en) Ikan Kekek 22:45, 31 January 2012 (EST)

Delete'em all, I say, there's been too much confusion and edit wars in this page (and the Portuguese version as well) and there's no fool-proof way to check on the agencies' backgrounds. There has never been anything *useful* about these listings, most of them are just phone numbers and directions "close to hotel x", "inside hostel y" and so on. I recently restored such a deletion because it was a seemingly spiteful act by a frustrated tour agency touter, but if we reach a consensus on deleting all tour listings, I would go along with that without hesitation. (WT-en) Ikan Kekek 20:02, 8 April 2012 (EDT)

I think my tour company should be accept on wikivoyage since we are reccomended in guide books and have all papers as a tour operator in Manaus,i can understand why,you guys want deleted as in Manaus there are many touts and it is true there are lot of website listed in Manaus page but these guys are most resellers and touts,you will find them every where in Manaus bus station airport and etc..... I have list of reference my tour company and e-mail address of people they have been in our jungle tour.

Whoever you are, promoting your tour company, it will be fruitful for the discussion if you identify yourself. If someone has deleted an entry you have made, they most probably did so because you were in breach of Wikivoyage's policy. Jungle accommodation

I am trying to do a clean-up of the sleep-section. Too many jungle lodgings there. I feel (don't know the exact policy...) they shouldn't be in this article at all. They are not in Manaus, after all. But then again, where do they belong? Suggestions?--(WT-en) Mariusm98 10:43, 6 April 2012 (EDT)

Businesses should only be in the article for the town / park / district in which they are located, so if there is a town or park article for the lodging then that would be the place to move them. If the lodges really are out in the jungle, and there is no Wikivoyage article that covers the area in which they are located, do you have a suggestion of how best these could be handled? Businesses are occasionally listed in region articles when they are in the middle of nowhere, but I'm not sure if that's applicable here. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 11:43, 6 April 2012 (EDT)

I made an initial attempt, although I realize that rivers are not appropriate destinations. They should probably be sub-sections of the municipalities they (or their most popular stretches) belong to, as I did with Iraduba/Ariau. Unfortunately I don't know the local geography well enough. Stay Healthy

I am not a doctor, so I do not have the knowledge to say one way or the other, but I have travel quite extensively in Africa, and have take many regimes of Anti Malarial drugs. To my understanding the drugs are only efficient if the regime is started a week before and continued a week after. You can't just take them if symptoms appear, that's not how malaria works, and the best treatment for malaria is to not get malaria, once you have symptoms you have it. Because of this I think this advice statement needs to be removed from this article, as this is dangerous and reckless advice!

Back in the 70s, when Fansidar (spelling?) was recommended, we had to start 3 weeks before we went to Malaysia (which is mostly malaria-free now). Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:25, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
