Mention out of the way location more prominently?

edit

As is well known in Germany, Munich airport is so far away from Munich city that than Bavarian prime-minister (and 2002 candidate for chancellor) Edmund Stoiber made a famous "speech" arguing for a Transrapid (maglev) link from the airport to downtown Munich. While there is currently a rail link (via S-Bahn) it is both expensive and takes quite some time (at least for German sensibilities), thus making Munich a sub-par choice for some travelers in some cases, especially when compared with Frankfurt airport which has a direct high speed rail link. Furthermore, some people with a lengthy layover (provided they are able to exit the "sterile" area) like to visit the town the airport is in. In the case of Munich airport this is rather difficult, given its out of the way location. Hence my question: How if at all should the out of the way location be made more evident? Maybe a map with metro-Munich and the airport on it? Hobbitschuster (talk) 21:26, 20 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Just add a passage to the lead explaining that in the most succint terms. PrinceGloria (talk) 08:26, 21 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Alternative banner for this article?

edit

Banner currently used in this article

Suggested new alternative banner

I created a new alternative banner for this article (I initially created it first and foremost so that it would be used at the top of the parallel article in the Hebrew edition of Wikivoyage, yet I later decided to also suggest that the English Wikivoyage community would consider using it here as well). So, which banner do you prefer having at the top of this article? ויקיג'אנקי (talk) 04:32, 11 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

They're both good banners, but I kind of like the current one more, because it strikes me as a less typical airport scene. Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:38, 11 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Agree with Ikan Kekek . The proposed new banner could be any airport in the world so I would choose to keep the origional. --Andrewssi2 (talk) 06:19, 11 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Imho the current banner could be any place in the world (including for example the new train station in Anaheim) whereas the alternative banner at least suggests "airport". I don't know, whether I have ever been to Munich airport, but isn't there any distinctive or identifying thing about it? Like the famous roof of the old Olympiastadion in Munich? Hobbitschuster (talk) 07:48, 11 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hobbitschuster kinda got me there. The glass roof of Munich airport is not so special...
I feel shots of planes ferrying around the airport is kind of lazy, but nothing wrong with it as such --Andrewssi2 (talk) 09:56, 11 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
To me, the roof over the patio is the most iconic part of MUC, and it is the sight that welcomes me to Munich every time. I do agree that it may not look unique unless you know MUC well, but it is quite a characteristic element of an otherwise quite generic (but very nice!) airport. I'm with PrinceGloria here. The tent-like glass patio is the most distinctive feature of the airport. (I also tend to prefer more abstract banners like the one currently in use.) Tbp386 (talk) 12:22, 12 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Combining day pass with single ticket

edit

Hi, the following paragraph was removed in this edit (@Macgyverjoel:) from section "Ground transportation -> By train":

A slightly cheaper option is to buy a Day Ticket (Outer District) (Tageskarte (Außenraum), a day pass for the city's outskirts which includes the green, yellow and red zones; single: €6.40, group: €12.20) and then an additional single ticket (€2.70 per person) for the trip within the inner city (white zone). Validate both tickets when starting your trip.

The reason for deletion was given that it is not allowed according to the rules of the MVV. Could you please give a pointer to that rule? Thanks a lot. Xsobev (talk) 14:33, 9 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi,

I reread the terms of the MVV and you are right. I was wrong; it is allowed and should be put back in. Thanx for bringing it up. Macgyverjoel (talk) 13:14, 14 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Lufthansa buses

edit

The current information in the "by bus" section is outdated, I am currently in no mood to dig deep enough to fix it all, but here is a good place to start. There may also be some other not airline affiliated bus operators other than Flixbus. Hobbitschuster (talk) 19:36, 26 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Novotel Munich Airport

edit

Either the coordinates given are false - in which case they should be changed, or this hotel is nowhere near the airport and deceptively named. Which of the two is true? Hobbitschuster (talk) 18:34, 5 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

The coordinates were wrong, and the hotel is near the airport. Thanks for spotting this. I added the correct ones now. Xsobev (talk) 22:15, 31 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Get in by train

edit

In the train section it says the following:

The airport is connected to Munich by suburban train (S-Bahn) lines S1 (for eastern districts) and S8 (for western districts).

Shouldn't it be the other way around: S1 for western districts and S8 for eastern districts? Xsobev (talk) 22:32, 31 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it should be and it is now correected. --Null Drei Null (talk) 20:55, 2 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
