Main Island

Can we call this Okinawa Main Island? I think that would help alleviate confusion between Okinawa City, Okinawa Prefecture, and this article (plus the former "Okinawa Islands" article that has since been redirected to the prefecture). Any objections? ChubbyWimbus (talk) 11:37, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

Subregions of Okinawa Island

I'm not sure how many other people will have opinions on this, but our regions of Okinawa Island are a mess right now. There are currently near-empty stubs and red links for all 27 (!) administrative regions, which is complete overkill. POIs are scattered haphazardly throughout, often with dupes.

I'm thinking we should split roughly along these lines:

• Naha and suburbs, basically southern Okinawa
• Ginowan/Chatan/Kadena, US bases and surrounds

• Onna/Nago resort sprawl
• Motobu peninsula (Nakijin, Kouri etc)
• North Okinawa (Yanbaru)

Open questions:

• Should Okinawa City/Uruma go into Chatan etc or be separate?
• Do we need a separate pages for the central east coast towns (Ginza, Kin) or can we roll them into Onna/Nago?

I'd say rolling together is better on both accounts. There are not that many cities on the main island. Five is the max number of subregions I'd say the island could warrant. ChubbyWimbus (talk) 11:32, 22 April 2024 (UTC)

On further thought, I'm going to stick to the well-defined South/Central/North split and only pull out Naha into its own. The Kerama Islands will also stay separate. So we have this:

I also should have clarified that it looks good to me. I'd make a static map but it takes much longer to draw Wikivoyage static maps than transit diagrams (which seem to be my last few uploads on Commons), but I'd be happy to start one when I get the time. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 10:41, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
