Talk:Paravur

Name

Wikivoyage style would be Paravur (Kollam), but what does "Kollam" refer to, in this instance? Apparently, a district we are not using in our hierarchy on Wikivoyage. So apparently, the disambiguation, if needed, would be Paravur (Southern Travancore). But why is a disambiguation needed? Couldn't we simply put the following message at the top of the article:

Not to be confused with North Paravur, which is approximately 175 km to the north.

Yes, User: Ikan Kekek, Putting two messages on the tops of two articles will be just fine. I don't see where exactly that is going to appear because I have seen such messages only in Wikipedia. Prof tpms (talk) 13:55, 6 June 2015 (UTC)

I just put the text at the beginning of the article. I think there's a template for this, but I don't remember which. Someone else will probably come by and make it "official", but this is good enough for now. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:20, 6 June 2015 (UTC)

Thank you Ikan Kekek for regularizing the two Paravur pages. India has many place names that are used in more than two or three places. Here in India, we are not able to avoid this confusion because the authority for giving place names is vested upon umpteen agencies like the provincial governments, the district authorities, the local governments or panchayaths, the railway authorities and the post office people. All these agencies work without consulting each other and remain a little obstinate with their choice of names. Kerala's capital had a beautiful name Trivandrum for two centuries, but it was suddenly changed into something that cannot be pronounced by anyone outside Kerala: Thiru-vanantha-puram. Several organizations continue to use the old name 'Trivandrum'.
