Talk:Sami culture

Note encyclopaedic definitions belong on Wikipedia. For this article to stay on the travel guide site there needs to be some reference to places of cultural interest, e.g.museums. Take a look at Roma culture in Europe which was at one point discussed for deletion. --Traveler100 (talk) 05:34, 16 June 2013 (UTC)

Disambiguation "Lapland"
editLapland uses obsolete terms and repeats the common misunderstanding that Northern Norway is referred to as Lapland. Presumably because of some (clever?) marketing the label "Lapland" sticks to Northern Norway even if the label is never used by Norwegians. --Erik den yngre (talk) 15:12, 6 December 2021 (UTC)
- I rewrote the page, moving Norway and Russia out of the list, to the lead instead. Thanks for notifying this; I have not liked those other "Laplands" there, but thought it isn't up to me to remove other countries. –LPfi (talk) 16:47, 6 December 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks. Among overseas visitors there are frequent misunderstandings about labels/concepts such as Lapland as well as what the Sami people really are. I guess marketing is one reason, see recent article https://www.nationalgeographic.com/travel/article/changing-indigneous-cultural-tourism-in-arctic-sapmi-region
- Some visitors even ask where they should go to see Sami people.--Erik den yngre (talk) 17:54, 6 December 2021 (UTC)
- Yes. I have tried to address these issues here and in Finnish Lapland. I should perhaps write a few words on igloos and huskies too. Should the advice be more strongly worded? Anything else to note? My knowledge is embarrassingly limited. –LPfi (talk) 19:39, 6 December 2021 (UTC)
- I am certainly no expert, but try to correct obvious errors (and I read up a bit to get details right!) --Erik den yngre (talk) 20:55, 6 December 2021 (UTC)
