Move to Hamptons
editAs with "The North Fork" this page's name is not in line with MOS. Consensus to move to Hamptons?Rastapopulous (talk) 16:18, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry for not noticing this discussion sooner (and sorry for my revert of the move; I accidentally hit "enter" as I was debating whether or not to move the page back, and before I had a chance to check this talk page). I believe "The Hamptons" meets the MOS because "Hamptons" is very rarely encountered without the definite article, if ever. Wikipedia's article uses the definite article, and they have very similar guidelines on when to use it. LtPowers (talk) 02:17, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
Move to cities?
editIn regards to this edit, there's one major problem: there are virtually no city articles to which listings can be moved. This appears to be, de facto if not by design, a bottom-level article. Powers (talk) 23:29, 18 August 2015 (UTC)
- Southampton needs an article; East Hampton already has one. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:01, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
- But East Hampton itself contains city articles, most of which are redlinks; is East Hampton a city or a region? And furthermore, The Hamptons isn't linked from Suffolk County (New York), its nominal parent region; instead East Hampton and Southampton are linked directly (under "Cities"). This is all very confusing.
- It seems to me if we're going to keep East Hampton and create Southampton, we need to a) decide if they're subregions of Suffolk County or cities; and b) treat The Hamptons as an extra-hierarchical region. Otherwise, East Hampton and Southampton should redirect here, and there should be some villages and hamlets contained within this region.

- Long Island has very large townships, and it looks like East Hampton is one of them. There's an East Hampton Village, which is a red link, and the larger East Hampton Township, which is the article we've linked above. And yes, it is confusing. Ikan Kekek (talk) 02:10, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
