Merge into one article edit
Since the only listings (eat & sleep) in this archipelago are on the main island, I don't think we need to have separate articles for Inaccessible Island and Gough Island, and doubt that they meet our article criteria. To get to guide status edit
I'd love to nominate this article for an Off the Beaten Path someday because it's so fascinating. What does this article need to get to guide status? Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:15, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
- Well, I'm incredibly fortunate that a local library has the only guidebook to the island (from Bradt) that is otherwise expensive/hard to find (it's out of print and the robo-pricing software that Amazon sellers use makes available copies quite expensive...$64.99 at the moment). I don't know what to add, just that it seems rather short. Go next needs info. I don't have time to browse now, but the island's website has lots of useful info. I recall there are a lot of regulations in place to protect the environment: inspection/washing on arrival, can't take anything home (plants...even rocks!). I think they also charge very high entry fees for journalists (and people suspected of being journalists). Given the small size of the community (and since it must be quite lonely), this seems like a great location to contact someone and cooperate with their tourism office. Wikivoyage is a low-bandwidth site, so there's possibly someone/people on the island that can greatly expand the article. AHeneen (talk) 07:50, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
- The main problem is the weakness of the get in section. It's not clear to me from reading it whether people arrive by freighter, private yachts, cruise ships, or all of the above. There is one mention of cruise ships in the article, but at other times it sounds like such a simple solution is not a reality. This affects logistics—if by freighter, the schedule would be set, and you'd have to follow it. Also, there needs to be some information about the Island Shop, since self-catering sounds to be how you get most of your meals. I'll make a map of Edinburgh of the Seven Seas, although I won't know where to put the listings. But yeah, this would be a cool feature. I imagine after getting these issues sorted out, we could email the government to nail down the details of hours of operation, phone numbers, etc., and then make this a star. --Peter Talk 20:00, 18 April 2013 (UTC)

- By all means (although it will be squishy). I mean to make a map divided into three sections showing this, a detailed map with a raster image of the island, and the island grouping. That will require a bigger thumb, but that will actually help in lengthening the article vertically, so we can fit the same amount of photos. --Peter Talk 15:48, 19 April 2013 (UTC)

Handling Outer Islands edit
The way the page had been organized, with the "do" section broken up into sub-sections for each major island, doesn't make much sense, since what was described was more than just "do" listings. Since no accommodation is available on these islands (except some huts on Nightingale), I've moved their descriptions to the "Go next" section as is standard practice. The wildlife information can be collected in a single sub-section under "See", referencing the different islands on which the animals/plants can be found. A section on visiting the outer islands can be added under "Get around". Does everyone agree with these changes? Does all this make sense? Any other ideas for better organizing the content of this page? AHeneen (talk) 07:58, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
