Talk:Western Switzerland
Subdivision
@Traveler100: Sorry for plunging forward a bit too "recklessly" when creating the article on Vaud and changing the "is in" of relateded articles. I was not aware that it is mandatory to discuss all changes to regional organisation beforehand. I felt that with 20 blue-linked city articles, this region is "overcrowded" and should be subdivided. Please forgive my lapse and let us discuss now. In my opinion, cantons are the most natural choice, given that Switzerland is a federal state where places and people are strongly identified with their canton and even laws and taxes may be different from one canton to another. What do you think? --RJFF (talk) 14:28, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
On second thought, I propose to consolidate the cantons of Jura, Neuchâtel and the western part of Bern in one article called Swiss Jura, given that there are only a few city articles in this area. --RJFF (talk) 14:33, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
- Was not objecting to the plunging forward. Just marking such a change as minor. People may not see or check changes marked as minor. --Traveler100 (talk) 19:00, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
- great initiative, this region definitely needs a lot of work and the subdivisions make sense to me. Only the name "Swiss Jura" might not be entirely accurate, as I think parts of Vaud are also in the Jura. But it's still probably the most accurate name. Drat70 (talk) 22:07, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
- It is not unusual for Wikivoyage regions to have a definition that slightly differs from the conventional definition of a geographic, political or historic region of the same name, as traditionally-defined regions often overlap while Wikivoyage regions are not supposed to overlap (with the rare exception of extraregions). As long as we make clear that the "travel region" of Swiss Jura is only intended to include the cantons of Jura, Neuchatel and western Bern while excluding the Vaud Jura, I find this acceptable. --RJFF (talk) 18:13, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
- yes, I agree, it should be fine as long as we are clear about it. Drat70 (talk) 23:51, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

- I just had another look at this. I removed the links for the regions without their own articles as of yet, I don't think they are necessary, and some regions might not get articles on their own at all. The article for Geneva linked to the city of Geneva, which is not correct as there are other destinations in the canton of Geneva (so far Hermance I think). The link to Swiss Jura just linked back to this page.
- Furthermore I'm thinking about renaming the Fribourg region, as the German speaking parts of Fribourg are part of Region Berne. Drat70 (talk) 01:10, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
- I added a map now and also made a regionlist to go with based on the one already there. Feel free to edit and add/remove stuff if you have any ideas for improvements. Drat70 (talk) 08:07, 18 May 2017 (UTC)
