Tezu

Not to be confused with Tezpur, India.

Tezu is a census town of 18,184 people (2011) in Lohit District, Arunachal Pradesh, India. It is known for its alluring natural beauty. It features many valleys and lakes, the most famous one being the Glow Lake. Other important places of interest include the D'Ering Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to more than 150 different bird species, some of which are endangered.

Tezu, being a small census town is quite developed and popular. It is the fifth largest town in Arunachal Pradesh. It receives a huge number of domestic tourists all around the year. The town is well connected by NH-13, NH-15 and NH-715 highways. A new airport has also been inaugurated in Tezu which provides four flights each week to Guwahati. There is also a glimpse of Tibetan culture here. It is recommended to visit Tezu in the early or late months of the year to get an exciting festive experience.

Climate

Tezu is located in the North Eastern part of India which receives a high annual rainfall. The climate is mostly influenced by mountain winds. In Tezu, the summer season is hot, muggy, and partly cloudy and the dry season is warm and mostly clear. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 11 °C (52 °F) to 31 °C (88 °F) and is rarely below 8 °C (46 °F) or above 34 °C (93 °F). The winter season lasts for 2.2 months, from December 16 to February 24, with an average daily high temperature below 23 °C (73 °F). The coldest month of the year in Tezu is January, with an average low of −5 °C (23 °F) and high of 21 °C (70 °F).

By plane

Tezu is served by Tezu Airport. Fly Big offers flights four times a week to Guwahati. Charter helicopter services are also available.

By train

The nearest railway station to Tezu is New Tinsukia Junction in the state of Assam. The railway station is served by Northeast Frontier Railway and provides cross country coverage of passenger and cargo services.

By bus

From Guwahati, public bus providers like Assam State Transport Corporation and Arunachal Pradesh State Transport Corporation operate to and from Tezu. Tezu is also well connected to almost all towns in Arunachal Pradesh by public and private operators. Available coach services can be booked on redbus. A single ticket costs ₹800.

By car

Tezu is gifted with natural beauty. There are scenic sights of lakes and lush green forests.

There are many restaurants in Tezu but if you want to have some authentic regional food you need to try out some street food.

Tezu doesn't have any significant nightlife unless it is the festive season. You can get a good cup of Darjeeling tea or some coffee at any restaurant or cafe.
