Turiec is a region in Central Slovakia.

  • 1 Martin. Former cultural center of the country.    
  • 2 Turčianske Teplice. Spa town.    
  • 3 Vrútky. A town right next to Martin.

The county arose before the 15th century as part of Hungarian empire. It's one of the more developed Slovak regions, mostly industrial.

Castle ruins:

  • 1 Blatnica castle.    
  • 2 Sklabinský.    
  • 3 Starhrad (Starý hrad (Old castle)).

  • 5 Kláštor pod Znievom (Manor house under Znievom). A village named after the local cloister ("kláštor" in Slovak language)

  • 1 Ferrata HSZ. An easy ferrata along a ravine/stream ending in the Martinské hole area.

  • 2 Martinské hole. A laid back ski area, however beware that the car access is unidirectional during winter. You can only enter or leave at certain times, and winter car equipment is mandatory.
  • 3 Valčianska valley. Quite a popular area (high car traffic to be expected).
