Pinellas Trail
I live in Crystal Beach Florida, and enjoy the fact that my little community is situated on the Pinellas trail. The Pinellas trail is about 25 miles of vacated railroad bed that has been converted to a linear park for walking, hiking and bicycle riding. It passes thru many small and unique towns that have catered to the tourist trade (as most places in the Tampa Bay have - at one time or another).
The trail currently runs from northern Pinellas County north of Tarpon Springs to St. Petersburg, in the southern part of the county.
Many of the small towns are now experiencing a rebirth of "day tourists" due to the trail, and I thought it would be useful to catalog some of the attractions along the way. Many of the towns on the trail are known tourist destinations - such as Tarpon Springs and St. Petersburg, however many are "hidden treasures" like Crystal Beach and Ozona, which have thier own public parks, beaches and commercial district - complete with eateries and pubs for the hungry and thirsty.
For those who travel by airplane, rental car and subway - these pages will be of little use. However if you set off on foot or bike in the Tampa bay area, you can travel to many of these jewels that lay off the beaten path - and I hope that these pages are of some use on your travels. Perhaps we might cross paths at the antique shops in Dunedin, or at the bar in Molly Goodheads in Ozona. Enjoy.
