Welcome
editHello, AlaskanAtHeart! Welcome to Wikivoyage.
To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Project:Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub.
Hi! I noticed you hadn't yet gotten the formal welcome, and while it's customary to add new messages to the bottom of a talk page the welcome message is typically the first message on most users' talk page, so I'm butting in :) Thanks for helping out with the Alaska articles and for taking the time to work with other users on defining regional breakdowns! -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 21:35, 20 August 2009 (EDT)
Southcentral Alaska
editHi Carol. There's nothing intrinsically wrong with the change you made. However, to ensure that we get thorough consistent coverage of all areas, and to ensure that the boundaries of each region are clear, it is better to propose a complete subdivision scheme at Talk:Southcentral Alaska. I am personally not too familiar with the borough system of Alaska, but I do know that boroughs do not provide complete coverage for the state. At any rate, we need to decide if borough boundaries make the most sense touristically, or if there is some more schema more logical and readily understandable to the travel (a geographical breakdown, for example), and it's best to get a little community consensus or at least tacit complicity first on the talk page. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to let me know on my talk page. (WT-en) Texugo 11:45, 20 August 2009 (EDT)
- That I can see, there are only about three other borough articles. You may very well be right about it being the best method for subdividing the regions, I just don't know. For Southcentral Alaska, do the existing boroughs cover and match up with the borders of the region as they appear on the state map on the Alaska page? (WT-en) Texugo 12:14, 20 August 2009 (EDT)
- Hello Carol, I made that map, and the boundaries of Southwestern Alaska do in fact align with the boroughs. You can see this by looking at the map at full resolution [1].
- Not all the regions align exactly with boroughs though—the eastern section of the boundary between Arctic Alaska and Interior Alaska is not along a borough boundary, as discussed Talk:Alaska#Regions. If you'd like to see adjustments to the regional structure or the map, please feel free to suggest them at that talk page. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 16:19, 20 August 2009 (EDT)
- I think it's fine to create the subregion articles as you had proceeded to—Texugo merely wants you to note here what you are doing. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 17:22, 20 August 2009 (EDT)
