Hello, Arunvarmaother! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Project:Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 08:42, 7 March 2010 (EST)

With reference to Kerala, I made most of the changes that you just reverted. Please note:
  • Wikivoyage has standard section headings, and they are always in the same order. Please do not change them. As well as the links I have given above, you will find it helpful to read this about standardised articles.
  • There are number of style issues, including the city descriptions which must be pithy one liners and not long blocks of text.
  • Region articles should contain a brief overview of the nature of the region and be light on specific details. All details of attractions etc should go into the relevant city articles.
If you wish to discuss any of this, please do so, preferably on the Kerala talk page. Cheers. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 08:42, 7 March 2010 (EST)

Kerala edit

It seems the content of Kerala is copied out from another site, According to Wikivoyage's policy, texts from other sites are prohibited as they are copyrighted unless they are released into public domain or either you have the consent of the author. -(WT-en) SnappyHip

Sorry for accusations. Please try to keep your edits simplified, country articles aren't even that so long. - (WT-en) SnappyHip 20:53, 7 March 2010 (GST)

OK, there are 3 of us who have tried to explain to you what is wrong with your additions to the Kerala page, but you insist on reverting them. This site has policy that defines what is suitable for where. I clearly stated on the Kerala talk page that listings of churches, mosques, temples, etc are NOT suitable for a Region (or in this case State) page. The listings you are putting here need to be added to the individual City pages. There is no negotiation on this, and your edits will continue to be reverted until they fall in line with site policy. If you continue to revert against teh site's policies you will find yourself becoming even more unpopular and possibly end up with a temporary ban. Of course, this is not something any of us want... We have tried to assist you to work out where you are going wrong and what you need to do for your contributions to be welcomed to the site. However, as it becomes more aparant you are either not listening to us, or just going ahead against what we are telling you, I cannot be responsible for the consequences down the road.

Please, for your sake as much as anyone else's, stop the continual reversals of edits to Kerala, read the advice you have been given and contribute in a way that we can all appreciate. (WT-en) Nrms 12:01, 8 March 2010 (EST)

To reiterate what has already been said here, bulk imports of text from other sites are not formatted to fit Wikivoyage's needs, and ultimately will likely be deleted. I would encourage you to import the text to your (WT-en) personal sandbox so that you could experiment there, and then introduce your content once you have it sorted out. Otherwise, your additions will not last. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 01:29, 9 March 2010 (EST)

Images edit

Hi there. Can you please give us a run down on the sources of the images you have uploaded please? This one for example appears to come from Lonely Planet. All images at Wikivoyage must comply with our copyleft licence. If you own the images, and are granting a Creative Commons Licence on them, then no problem. Otherwise it is likely that they will not comply. Thank very much.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 05:48, 10 March 2010 (EST)

Dear Burumesedays

This image is from Wikipedia, an image from Wikicommons- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Munnar_hillstation_kerala.jpg.

This is licensed to use in all wiki areas by the user. This is a free image and freely available on net. And I own this picture, with permission from its original user- Bimal K.C, a freelancer photographer and my friend, who has given permission to me.

All pictures currently in Kerala page, mostly belongs to wikicommons and used extensively in other wikipedia, thereby licensed use in Wikivoyage

Thanks-Arunvarmaother

Thank you very much for that clarification. It is clearly a professional shot and used at Lonely Planet, hence the inquiry. One thing, please do not assume that all images at Commons can be used at Wikivoyage. Many (even most) cannot as they are GFDL licenced. For the full scope on why early GFDL licences are not compatible with Wikivoyage, read here. All images uploaded here must be either public domain or have a Creative Commons licence compliant with our Copyleft. Wikivoyage is not a Wikimedia Foundation project. Thanks again.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 07:58, 10 March 2010 (EST)

Also, please can you include a source when you upload an image, as per the instructions on the upload screen. For example, this one has no source and therefore we have no idea where it came from. If it comes from Commons please use the url as the source. If you own it, please state own work as the source. Please do this for all your image uploads as routine. Thanks.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 08:14, 10 March 2010 (EST)

Yes thanks for that information. I will try to indicate source, from now onwards. Most of the images I have uploaded are from Wikicommons. Thanks for that information, as I was under impression that Wikivoyage is part of Wikimedia project. Anyhow, I will ensure that such source information will be added

Regards-Arunvarmaother

I suspect that is a common misconception :). Please could you go to each of the images you have already uploaded at Shared and use the edit dialogue to enter the source. If you don't, I know they will be challenged. All images must have a source. Thanks again. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 08:34, 10 March 2010 (EST)

Kay next time please put the link where you have taken the picture because it has confused us. Have a nice evening. -(WT-en) SnappyHipCaesarSaladChallenges 20:46, 10 March 2010 (GST)
