Hello James! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Project:Help, or post a message in the Wikivoyage:Travellers' pub|travellers' pub]].

In addition to that little boilerplate collection of links, I would like to thank you for your work on Saint-Barthelemy and for your message on my talk page. It is my opinion that Wikivoyage's policies do not fit resort cities/islands like St Barthelemy well; perhaps it is worth revisiting these policies. My advice is to take a good long look at Project:External links and Project:Accommodation listings and their accompanying talk pages, then leave a message on the Project:Accommodation listings page outlining which changes you think would be useful to our policies on apartment rentals listings. Hopefully that will get some sort of discussion rolling. I will try to keep track of any changes you make there and will try to help make things clear. I would look more into this myself, but I have very little experience with resort destinations—most of my "tourist" travel has been in the Former Soviet Union! --(WT-en) Peter Talk 20:27, 31 July 2007 (EDT)

Hi, James. Thank you for the note on my talk page regarding Saint-Barthelemy. I understand your points, but I really don't agree. I don't feel your links met Wikivoyage policies and I don't understand the need for an exception either. I don't feel the page will necessarily die as I have personally written many pages without help of business owners, tourism organizations or anyone. If one seeks a wedding planner for St. Barth's, I would think they would use Google. Most travelers have no need of the service and would not look for it on Wikivoyage. It seems to me to be enough to indicate it is a nice place to marry-- and maybe appropriate to list one or two recommended ones (with phone numbers, email addresses and with links to their website if they have one). We are not interested in generating traffic to other guide sites. We want the information on Wikivoyage--not links to other sites. Until policy is changed, this is what I will go by. Thanks for your note. Please sign your comments on any talk page with ~~~~ (four tildes) which automatically puts in your username, date and time. It helps in keeping the communications straight, thanks. (WT-en) OldPine 10:57, 2 August 2007 (EDT)

In regards to any accommodations, I believe policy states that they need to be available for periods of less than one week. Somehow that seems wrong to me... maybe I misuderstood. Certainly most travelers to St. Barths would be going for a week or more I would guess. I'd not delete the rental agencies in this instance... not sure if others might.
