Welcome, but please check Apt, the listing you are trying to add does not seem to qualify per our policies. --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 08:44, 23 November 2009 (EST)
Listings for Cork
editHi Sertmann
i disagree. The link is very specific to holiday rentals for cork and in Ireland holiday rentals and B&B are 100 times bigger than hotel stays. Hotel websites are allowed
- That may be, but we do things according to policies here, if you don't like the policy, you need to change it, not break it. Though I have to warn you, it's a long standing policy which has been serving us quite well, so you'd be facing a challenge there. --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 08:56, 23 November 2009 (EST)
- Oh, you would do that Wikivoyage_talk:Accommodation_listings#Apartment_rentals here btw. --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 08:58, 23 November 2009 (EST)
Why the selective enforcement of policies ......why all the hotels and no competing accommodation formats ......it in no way relates to the local market
We conform with the policies outlined in the wikivoyage talk...... 1) we have an office in Ireland with a local phone number. 2) the link is specific and refers only to properties in Co Cork 3) All properties are direct from the owner 4) It is an area where holiday rentals are very very very common.
- I do usually look for an address in the listings I remove, if you had included a Cork adress in the listing I apologize for removing it, if not you need to include the address for your office in Cork in order to be in line with the policy. --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 09:14, 23 November 2009 (EST)
- Does not really matter for his listing which I assume is the one in question?. It is a booking agency and there is no office address that I can find on the website. I doubt very much therefore that they are present at the destinations of their apartment listings and the website says they are based in Tipperary, not Cork. This is not a primary source in any way and therefore you were quite right to delete it Stefan. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 09:19, 23 November 2009 (EST)
It is not a booking agency .....all of the properties are advertised by their owners .........we are a husband and wife team who provide a website for holiday house owners to advertise their houses. We are also locally based in Ireland and know the local accommodation market .....and holiday rentals are huge and cheap
We get no commission and at the moment all houses are advertised free. Surely visitors to Ireland should know about all of their accommodation options especially the cheaper ones .........Ireland is in a savage recession and promoting cheaper options to tourists is one of our governments aims.
- Regardless, not a primary source. If you have an office in Cork, where customers can show up with inquires, complaints, collect keys etc., by all means include the listing along with a Cork address and telephone number - provided that you are the exclusive agent for at least a handful of those properties (ie. they are not bookable on any other website) or by calling the owners directly. I must say looking at that website, you are very far from what our policies are designed to allow for inclusion. --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 09:29, 23 November 2009 (EST)
What you mean if we are a booking agency in cork we can list ..........Completely absurd
- Stefan's best advice to you was to read the WT policy. If you disagree with that policy, debate it on the talk page. Breaking the policy is not the answer. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 09:34, 23 November 2009 (EST)
Why then are commercial hotels from chains listed ?????
- Because they are hotels that comply with the relevant WT policy. There might be some that do not and if we see them, they are deleted. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 09:38, 23 November 2009 (EST)
What policy are you applying .......none in any consistent fashion!!!!!Surely the objective is to provide people with information about a country????
- I am not sure what you do not understand about previous advice. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 09:38, 23 November 2009 (EST)
You are obviously a bit on the slow side .....Why do hotels appear in the Cork listing and ones from commercial chains .....surely that is against polity too???? or do you not understand the policies too??
- Listen, we are all volunteers and not here to serve or spend time business interests. The hotels are located in Cork, with a reception desk in cork, a telephone number in Cork, and beds in Cork, meaning that even though they are part of a chain, by nearly all measures they are located in, well, Cork. You are located Nenagh, which given my limited knowledge of Irish geography, I assume is not Cork. But you allow people from Cork to advertise their property in Cork (freely only for the first 12 months), meaning you are an advertising business, not a place to sleep. And by the way, we remove at least as many hotel chain entries as we do businesses like yours, albeit from different reasons, and no, Burmesedays is entirely correct, and in line with our policies --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 09:51, 23 November 2009 (EST)
Maybe I can put it in different words, as I've just removed your ad from the Ireland article. Broadly, this site serves travellers by listing actual accommodation - hostels, campsites, hotels, etc, where they can physically rack up and stay. If the site allowed ads by every third-party website which tried to act as an agent, it would be awash with ads and as a result would be less useful to the traveller. Hence the policy of no 3rd party listings. The exception would be if you are the sole agent for the accommodation - is that the case here? (WT-en) Andyfarrell 12:36, 23 November 2009 (EST)
With all due respects the contributors here are completely ignorant of the realities of accommodation in the UK and Ireland. I am not an agent and i am not an aggregator. Most of the properties on our site from Ireland are only on our site and for all of them the visitor contacts the owner directly. Generally in Ireland holiday homes are owned by older people who really dont understand that much about the web and most definitely dont have their own web site. The Irish Government in an effort to formalise this segment of the market has set up its own site and is actively promoting it all over the web. Is it also an aggregator.....? Yes the reality of travel is that the provision of services is done by commercial organisations but that doesnt mean it is a bad thing. Good services is what good travel is all about and generally these are provided by commercial organisations. However you make it very clear that our kind of service is not wanted on a site like this. It is kind of funny because your accommodation facilites all over Ireland are empty and people like me would have spent time updating local information all over the country. We were even going to contact all our advertisers to make sure that they updated their local information on this site. But i guess a Dane and a Brit in Indonesia know better ..............it might be better to call the site wikivoyagebums.org as you are definitely not interested in providing information to the majority of travellers about the options they have ........dont bother replying .......i wont be back
