What do I do in Louisville?

Gday Fastestdogever (has that got anything to do with 'the world's fastest indian' about the NZ movie starring Anthony Hopkins?)

I was wondering why I should visit Louisville, Ohio. I looked it up on the net and there wasn't much information except the history and the birth of constitutional week. Is it a suburb of those other, larger cities or is it a seperate smaller town. Do I just pass through on may way to other points of interest in the area such as the NFL Hall of Fame? Do people live there and travel to work in other towns? Which part of "This slice of the mid-west contains a bit of everything American—part north-eastern and part southern, part urban and part rural, part hardscrabble poverty and part booming suburb," [1] Is there anything to do there??? - Darren, (WT-en) Ctbolt 20:00, 2 February 2007 (EST)

Well, I would say Louisville is it's own town, although it has been called a "bedroom city", meaning the population drops dramatically during then day when people commute to work (I believe it had the larges population drop in all of Stark County). While there isn't a lot to do in Louisville, it does have a downtown area (Main Street) which I think makes it stand out more than other small cities in Ohio (like the ones that have a strip mall and a grocery store). I'll add some "do's" and "see's" shortly. And nope, fastestdogever has nothing to do with the movie, just my awesome Greyhound. (WT-en) Fastestdogever 11:42, 3 February 2007 (EST)

Ah, good work. Now I'll have to get around to creating a page for the place I stay to work - Dampier. We get US documentaries from time to time in Australia on the issues of the big retail giants creating the malls on the highways which then attract shoppers from many miles away destroying the down town areas (the High Street). I'd really consider highlighting the fact that you still have a down town area - people are becoming more aware of the need to support the small and family owned shops instead of the 'walmarts'. One of the documentaries purposely avoided using the major interstate highways (that avoid the small towns which in some respects is a good thing!) and avoided any 'chain' stores. You never know, there are probably people out there, on their travels, just looking to spend some money at down town Louisville. - (WT-en) Ctbolt 18:50, 3 February 2007 (EST)

Ohio townships

Hey there Stacy! I just reverted the couple of pages you were moving in Ohio... Looking at Wikipedia, I think that those are the actual names of the places, in which case Atwater Township should stay there, not at Atwater (Ohio). Well, I was thinking that someone traveling to Atwater would most likely say they're going to Atwater, not necessarily Atwater Township. There are no cities or other boundaries within Atwater or Randolph. Also, if you search for "township" there are only 7 hits with that actually in the title, but many in the page text (XX is a township in XX). You look right about that. Not sure what the right thing is then. Wikipedia:Civil township is an interesting explanation of a township, but you live there so you probably already know this. The article naming conventions state that we use the most common name, not the official name, so if you think that Atwater would be used way more than Atwater Township, then I'll let you do your thing. p.s., you are indeed the fastest dog ever, it's great having people around paying attention to the things you pay attention to, and slicing through articles like they were ripe tomatoes... keep up the good work! For now I'll leave them as they are. The Randolph (Ohio) and Atwater (Ohio) pages redirect to their respective township pages, so someone searching would find what they are looking for. Tiny "cities" in regional articles

I'll join in the chorus thanking you for all the cleanup you've been doing, but one little thing: it is neither necessary nor desirable for regional articles within states to list tiny towns in the "Cities" section simply because the tiny towns have their own article. The Cities lists should be held down to about 8 or 9 "cities" per region, to improve readability of the articles, with preference given to the most significant cities/towns in the region; less important ones can certainly have their own article and breadcrumb track leading back to the region, but should only be mentioned in the regional article if there's enough room. The one that caught my attention was Lexington (Illinois), which is a teeny little place (I grew up near there) that surely does not rank among the 8 or 9 most significant "cities" in Central Illinois. I disagree with this statement and it's not the way we've done things in the past. As far as I'm concerned, every city article should be reachable from its parent region. If there are too many cities in a region for this to work, then the region should be sub-divided into smaller regions, and so on and so-forth. It's better to link the city in its region, even if there are too many cities already, and work out the region structure later, than to leave a city unlinked.

It is on the Sevierville, TN, Pigeon Forge, TN and Gatlinburg, TN pages for a reason — the cabin rental company has multiple cabins throughout the entire region, and therefore it is applicable to have a listing for people looking for cabins in all three areas. Listing it only in Sevierville is cutting out on 1/3 of potential business. Breadcrumb

Puerto Rico

Yup, flew into San Juan & drove. If you don't want the long drive, Cape Air flies to Mayaguez, which is about 1/2 hour south of Rincon. If anyone is planning of driving, let me know and I'll dig out the directions we used. -- (WT-en) Fastestdogever 09:30, 11 April 2007 (EDT)

Arizona regions

I've replied on the Talk:Arizona page. Arizona is a difficult case when it comes to region structure, owing to the geological complexity of the state. I think the structure that I propose is at least practical, if not rigorous; see what you think. Hmm. I did not create "eat" or "sleep"", or at least, I think not. But, I did delete "eat". Hope that is OK. When you have time, could you create one for Catawba. Not sure what to call that. Address on some = Port Clinton. 2old

Catawba

Well I am now more confused than ever. (but that's easy.) I have went to "Catawba Island" all my life. Wikiencyclopedia says it is not actually an island, but one of 11 townships in Ottawa County (I think they are right). It would confuse a visitor and offend the merchants if I called it Port Clinton. It is a major tourist area with a state park and plenty of marina's. I think I will wait until someone else create something suitable. How about Region:Catawba Island Peninsula (Ohio) 2old

Ottawa County

Wow. I built a few web sites years ago, but did not have to worry much about it. This has been an experience (with spelling mostly). I spelled peninsula wrong, had to delete and start over. The scoop on Catawba is - a lot of visitor info, marina's and such is on this peninsula with no towns, villages or inc. area that I can find other than the township. So I created Ottawa County (Ohio) with a region being Catawba Island Penninsula. Watcha think, is that ok? If not, we can delete it, but I do not know how. If I did I would delete catawba island penninsual page which is not spelled correctly. 2old.

Ottawa County Peninsula

New one for me. Most refer to this as Catawba or Catawba Island. It has less waterfront than Marblehead Peninsula but 5 times as many business places, sleeping places, beaches and so on. It is much more diverse than Port Clinton. I will await your input before going any further. 2old Thanks you are super helpful. Mike

Yes and no in answer to your question. As an Aussie living in Nth Am., my spellchecker's US so I tend to ignore a lot of it. I find it's a great aid to getting the ball rolling but it doesn't pick certain common errors & as an editor from way back, I still prefer relying my own sighting of errors, especially for sense. :) Anyway, I find I'm really enthused by this site and hope to be adding more substantive material over time as well.
