Welcome edit

Hello Ilkirk! Welcome to Wikivoyage. Thanks for plunging forward so far. If you're going to continue working on Wikivoyage, you may find the tips for new contributors helpful.

You should also make sure you understand our copyleft and policies and guidelines. Scanning the Manual of style, especially the article templates, can give you a good idea of how we like articles formatted.

If you need help, check out Project:Help, and if you need some info not on there, post a message in the travellers' pub or on the talk page for the most appropriate article.

Thanks for your contributions on Chattanooga - it's coming along very quickly! While your contributions have been good, it would be helpful if you could add a license statement to Image:TNAquariumChattanooga.jpg, Image:LookoutMountainTN.jpg, Image:HunterMuseumChattanoogaTN.jpg and Image:WalnutStreetBridgeChattanoogaTN.jpg saying something like "Licensed under the Attribution-ShareAlike 1.0 license" so that it is clear that you are licensing it under a valid license. -- (WT-en) Ryan 19:59, 27 Jul 2005 (EDT)

Licensing completed! (WT-en) Ilkirk 23:08, 27 Jul 2005 (EDT)
Thanks! And sorry for putting the welcome message on your user page instead of your talk page -- lack of sleep apparently caught up with me. -- (WT-en) Ryan 00:20, 28 Jul 2005 (EDT)

Ryan - Thanks for the encouragement! I've somehow spent an extraordianary amount of time on the page for some reason. As becuase of all that time, A) I've got what I think is a great page about my hometown, and B) its over the 32kb mark! Could you give me some pointers on what to do about this? I read that some people have broken the article into districts, but Chattanooga doesn't seem to lend too well to that... I don't think. Thanks! (WT-en) Ilkirk 22:03, 27 Jul 2005 (EDT)

Going over 32k is fine, there's been some talk about upping the limit — it's just a semirandom default value better suited to Wikipedia than Wikivoyage. (WT-en) Jpatokal 22:12, 27 Jul 2005 (EDT)
Oh - beautiful! I'm so glad to hear that because I just couldn't come up with any ideas of spliting the dang thing! Have you looked at the article? See anything I've done horribly wrong? I've started switching the addresses and phone numbers to the top of the entries, but I've got to do so sleeping first... Oh yeah, and I stole your infobox bit from your user page - I dig it. (WT-en) Ilkirk 23:07, 27 Jul 2005 (EDT)

Recent Changes edit

Hi Ilkirk,

Regarding your note about "Somewhat unrelated, but could you tell me how it is that you put the little notes in the Recent Change log?", you simply add a note in the summary box that appears at the bottom of the edit screen (above the "Save Page" and "Show Preview" buttons). That message will then appear on the recent changes page and in the article history. -- (WT-en) Ryan 15:38, 28 Jul 2005 (EDT)

Too easy. Thanks! :) (WT-en) Ilkirk 16:17, 28 Jul 2005 (EDT)

Must remember... edit

  • Glenorchy - Needs sleep (amongst other things)... the camp grounds, the hotel. Must remember drinking at the pub/hotel/restaurant. "The Crib" may be open. Check on other tracks leaving from there and collect info for the bus.
  • Tunica - Come on... there is plenty of information to be added here. Should be an easy bit of work.

Felcor edit

Felcor is a company that actually owns a bunch of hotels. And they seem to have paid someone to add the hotels into wikivoyage, which is Officially Okay and Encouraged behavior. Since those are all felcor websites, they really are the primary and correct sites for those hotels. Thanks! -- (WT-en) Colin 17:09, 14 Sep 2005 (EDT)

Oh yeah. He also makes a lot of mistakes -- like putting hotels into Atlanta instead of the specific suburb article, non-MoS formatting, and failing to add phone numbers. Sometimes I go through his contributions and fix them up, but lately he hasn't been logging in (probably due to the login bug we used to have) so it's harder to identify his contributions. -- (WT-en) Colin 17:16, 14 Sep 2005 (EDT)
Oh... I gotcha. It just seemed so strange to see the same link (more or less) over and over again. Thanks for clueing me in on that one... as you can see, I get a little crazy sometimes. :) -- (WT-en) Ilkirk 22:49, 19 Sep 2005 (EDT)
It's a good kind of crazy, from what I've seen. -- (WT-en) Colin 23:01, 19 Sep 2005 (EDT)

nps.gov edit

Hey - I reverted one of your changes to Cuyahoga Valley National Park since nps.gov is public domain. I'm short of sleep and doing ten things at once at work today, so if I missed something and there really is a copyvio feel free to revert my revert, which I may then mistakenly revert again, thus creating a need for a revert of the reverted revert which was mistakenly reverted. Did I mention I'm sleep deprived?

Great work on all of the edits and such lately, by the way. People around here often tend to be silently impressed, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who appreciates the massive number of format updates and other edits you've been making. -- (WT-en) Ryan 13:49, 26 Oct 2005 (EDT)

I feel like a little bit of a nutjob when I glance at the recent changes and see my name appear so many times. I just troll the special pages, looking for the mistakes that I had made when I first got started. Thanks for the "vocal" acknowledge, though - makes me feel better about bombing the recent change list!
All of the info I removed from the Cuyahoga Valley National Park was from the NPS site... I didn't consider the idea that it was public domain. Thanks!
Have fun with work! -- (WT-en) Ilkirk 13:57, 26 Oct 2005 (EDT)

Admin edit

I'd like to nominate you for administrator status. You show a lot of understanding of what we're trying to do here, and I think you'd be a big help. Would you mind if I nominate you? --(WT-en) Evan 20:38, 28 Oct 2005 (EDT)

Sounds okay to me... I float around all the time anyway. :) Thanks! -- (WT-en) Ilkirk 22:19, 30 Oct 2005 (EST)
No problem. The discussion seems to be over, and I've set your status to admin. Thanks for taking the time to do this! --(WT-en) Evan 12:35, 15 Nov 2005 (EST)

Special characters edit

Please note that Latin characters are OK to use in Wikivoyage article names: see Project:Article_naming_conventions#Non-alphabetic_characters. (The wording is poor and I'll try to fix it up, but see the Talk page for a long discussion.) (WT-en) Jpatokal 20:59, 31 Oct 2005 (EST)

I read the article as well as the discussion and thought it confirmed my method... how confusing. -- (WT-en) Ilkirk 08:41, 1 Nov 2005 (EST)

Status rating edit

I am pontificating about Project:Status rating on the talk page. You might want to join the discussion and stop me before I do anything stupid, as I feel like I am talking through a hole in my head at present. But then I realise it is still Friday night for half the world and people may be otherwise distracted. I am proposing some changes, but holding off implementing them ... for a little while. -- (WT-en) Huttite 20:24, 18 Nov 2005 (EST)

Grosser Feldberg edit

Why is this article voted for deletion?

It is very possible you have more information to share and the article will not be deleted. -- Ilkirk 11:22, 18 July 2006 (EDT)

No, just curious. I'm new here and was wondering, because I did not find anything wrong with the article (except, that it was a stub). Btw. I find this way of communicating with each other by editing other peoples discussion page a bit strange. Is it really the way you talk to other users here? Or am I getting something completely wrong? Sascha

I did not add this article ;-) I just came across it and was wondering. That's it. Thanks for explaining - (WT-en) SaschaT 07:06, 20 July 2006 (EDT)

Thanks edit

Thanks for fixing up the new Prague district template. I had to go to lunch before I could get it sorted out. (WT-en) Thewayoftheduck 01:04, 20 July 2006 (EDT)

Help edit

I was wondering if you could add some hotels or something to the outline like food shelter getting around etc. (WT-en) Fallencreatuire 12:16, 24 July 2006 (EDT) thanks

(Guess (WT-en) who this is.) - (WT-en) Todd VerBeek 12:24, 24 July 2006 (EDT)

Admin nomination edit

I've nominated User:(WT-en) Cacahuate to become an admin; please comment on Project:administrator nominations when you have some time. --(WT-en) Evan 01:27, 6 January 2007 (EST)
