Possible criminal(!) issue
editWelcome and thanks and all that stuff, but also a problem. You might look at the edit that I just rolled back for Carlsbad Caverns National Park. In my opinion the thing that I reversed may constitute criminal activity, and IB might be in a position of needing to take action about it. That wasn't graffiti or insults or invective; that was a THREAT. An unconditional threat may constitute assault under some conditions. I'm not sure what to do about it, being a mere admin, but I suspect that IB may have some actions to take on this. Please feel free to use my e-address to discuss if you'd rather not continue the conversation here. -- (WT-en) Bill-on-the-Hill 19:54, 4 March 2008 (EST)
Protecting Template:Discover
editUh, are you sure you wanted to do that? I see the problem with the spambot that had been attacking it, but the bot that Jani set up for daily updates is also an unregistered user, and it's the only automated tool we have for updating the Discover section on the front page. Not sure how to proceed here ... -- (WT-en) Bill-on-the-Hill 13:19, 1 August 2008 (EDT)
- The "DiscoverBot" that updates the Main Page Discover section, coming from IP address 209.172.55.139, operates once a day, at midnight Eastern Standard Time. That's the only unregistered user that should be editing the template. (In fact, there should be no edits except by that bot, plus the additional manual removals of obsolete images, which the bot isn't smart enough to do by itself. I'm the one who usually does that.) I see that (WT-en) Colin has reinstituted the protection, implying that Jani got DiscoverBot fixed to where it'll work as a logged-in user; this is probably the best solution, in which case I probably shouldn't have bugged you about it at all. :-) If that does work, we simply go on from here (and if it doesn't, some more careful consideration of options needs to be done). -- (WT-en) Bill-on-the-Hill 14:58, 1 August 2008 (EDT)
