Welcome edit

Hello, Nathan123! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Project:Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub.

Thanks for your contributions to Sandy! Two important notes, however: first, as outlined on the Special:Upload page, any image uploaded to English Wikivoyage will be deleted - please upload to commons:Special:Upload instead. Second, please see Wikivoyage:Copyleft#Frequently asked questions - at least one image you uploaded can be found on other web sites and has been flagged as a likely copyright violation.

If you have any questions you can ask them on this talk page or in the Pub. Thanks again for contributing! -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 13:13, 9 May 2012 (EDT)

Pictures edit

I still don't understand what pictures I can use. Am I only allowed to use pictures that I take, myself?

Wikivoyage:Copyleft#Frequently asked questions should answer your questions. Any content that someone creates, including images, is automatically protected by copyright law, so unless the author explicitly gives you rights to that image then it is illegal to re-publish that image. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 14:23, 9 May 2012 (EDT)

I work for the City of Sandy, and I was given permission to use the images. I was just going through and I saw that the Sandy page on Wikivoyage needed some work, so I thought I'd put in my two cents. What do I need to do to prove that I was given permission? Thank you for your help and patience.

See wts:How to upload files#Upload summary - that section is a bit complex, but provides details to answer your question. Please note that to use an image here the author of the image (or the copyright holder if the rights to the image have been sold) must agree to freely license the image such that ANYONE (not just Wikivoyage) can now use the image without charge. The images you uploaded generally came from websites where the author was not willing to provide such license - for example, wts:Image:Sandy Balloon 1.jpg appears to come from [1] where the author states "All images are property of Liesel Renae Photography. Please do not use my images without my permission" - so please be sure that the image authors really are willing to freely license their photos for anyone to use. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 14:52, 9 May 2012 (EDT)
