Welcome edit

Hello Repayne! Thanks for your work on Talkeetna, New Jersey and elsewhere. The site currently has many gaps in its coverage of United States National Parks, so it's great to have a fellow park fan around. Your contributions thus far have been great, but one thing to be aware of is that usually standard headings aren't deleted unless they don't apply to a particular subject, for example having a "Drink" section in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge article wouldn't make sense since no one would expect to find a bar on the tundra. If I've re-added any headings to Talkeetna that don't make sense, feel free to remove them, otherwise the hope is that future users will come along and help fill those sections out.

And now here's the boilerplate welcome, which may contain some helpful links:

Welcome to Wikivoyage. Thanks for plunging forward so far. If you're going to continue working on Wikivoyage, you may find the tips for new contributors helpful. You should also make sure you understand our copyleft and policies and guidelines. Scanning the Manual of style, especially the article templates, can give you a good idea of how we like articles formatted. If you need help, check out Project:Help, and if you need some info not on there, post a message in the travellers' pub or on the talk page for the most appropriate article.

Disambiguation cleanups edit

Just a quick note to say thanks for the massive number of formatting and disambiguation cleanups you did late last week. Very much appreciated! -- (WT-en) Ryan 02:47, 7 Sep 2005 (EDT)

Thanks, and no problem, I was just getting familiar with the place and doing what I can. I just finished going alphabetically through all of the pages of links to the disambiguation pages. I have generally not updated User: and talk pages. I would be interested to hear if there was something else that I should have done. -- (WT-en) Repayne 14:10, 10 Sep 2005 (EDT)
You did great -- in general user pages aren't touched except by their owners, except to revert vandalism, and talk pages also aren't really a high priority for minor updates. Thanks again. -- (WT-en) Ryan 14:18, 10 Sep 2005 (EDT)
Thanks. -- (WT-en) Rob (Payne) 14:57, 10 Sep 2005 (EDT)

Spelling edit

Thanks for the spelling fixes, but as far as I can tell, the proper spelling is "archaeological", not "archeological" (See Wikipedia and Wiktionary). In addition, the first hit on Google for "archaeology" is "Archaeology Magazine", while the top results for "archeology" are sites in which the spelling is "archaeology". -- (WT-en) Wrh2 00:56, 15 Sep 2005 (EDT)

Thanks for pointing that out. I was going by the mispeelings (sic!) page, which says: "archaeological -> archeological (american spelling)". I should have checked. Wiktionary and M-W Online both list both variants. -- (WT-en) Rob (Payne) 00:59, 15 Sep 2005 (EDT)
I've updated the Project:List of common misspellings to no longer include "archeology" for the above reasons, and also because that's not a spelling I'm familiar with and I've spent the majority of my life in America. If someone out there is an English major and can prove that Americans get 10-20 hard labor for adding an extra vowel then we can add it back. Also, I reverted the spelling change of "Antarctica" on the Ushuaia page since the hostel name is in Spanish. Anyhow, thanks for the changes, and thanks for making me aware of the spelling function -- after almost a year here I just thought that User:(WT-en) Nzpcmad was a really good speller. -- (WT-en) Wrh2 01:10, 15 Sep 2005 (EDT)
