Hello, TomNativenewYorker! Welcome to Wikivoyage.
To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Project:Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub.
Thanks for your work on Curacao so far. There's some good information in that article, but it needs attention from a fluent English speaker. (WT-en) Gorilla Jones 11:44, 14 June 2009 (EDT)
- I spent about 95 days on Curacao towards the end of 2007 for work, so hopefully I can add some more information based on first hand experience.(WT-en) TomNativenewYorker 14:54, 14 June 2009 (EDT)
Looks great! I made several "mos" edits, which I tried to explain in the edit summaries [1]. And yeah, it can be quite difficult to figure out who is plagiarizing who on the internet, especially long after the fact. The best advice I can give is that, if another reliable source has the same text, we're probably the plagiarizers. Conversely, if you can find any other site that attributes the information to us, then it's probably our own copyrighted material. Both methods are hardly foolproof, though. The main thing is that we demonstrate that we are making the effort to keep copyright violations off the site.
All this is besides the point, though—your rewritten version is a huge improvement. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 16:19, 17 June 2009 (EDT)
touting
editHi TomNativenewYorker, I was 190.4.137.94 who edited yesterday and was wondering why my entry was undo-ed. (I'm new to Wiki, so please bare with me if I make newbie mistakes by posting here). I thought it would be a nice addition to provide a place for the various activties on the island specifically watersports, since this island has great conditions. Best ingcur.
- It comes across as touting, read here>> http://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Wikivoyage:Don%27t_tout (WT-en) TomNativenewYorker 18:07, 31 August 2009 (EDT)
- Thanks for keeping an eye out for that, Tom. You can link to the touting policy with just two letters: dt (or write it as Don't tout). (WT-en) Gorilla Jones 18:30, 31 August 2009 (EDT)
- Thank you Tom for your explaination and your call is right by those definitions. I will do my best to (hopefully) write better non-touting contribution, plus identifying myself as the owner in my userpage. Best regards I.
Patrolled
edit
I notice in article page logs that edits have been marked as 'patrolled' by various admins. I looked all over but I cant seem to find an explanation. Can someone explain the purpose for me? Thanks (WT-en) TomNativenewYorker 13:37, 15 June 2009 (EDT)
- → Project:Recent changes patrol --(WT-en) Peter Talk 13:39, 15 June 2009 (EDT)
- I searched for hours and couldnt find that article.Thanx(WT-en) TomNativenewYorker 14:22, 15 June 2009 (EDT)
- Yeah, it seems like there are not enough links pointing towards it (there wasn't even a link at Project:Namespace index!). I'm not sure what other pages there are that should have links to it—maybe someone else can think of some. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 14:41, 15 June 2009 (EDT)
- In the hopes of catching the most likely search term, I added a redirect from Patrol. - (WT-en) Dguillaime 14:59, 15 June 2009 (EDT)
Kuwait
edit...for a year? Ouch. I hope to see you working on the Kuwait articles then, since you'll certainly have lots of time to kill! (WT-en) Jpatokal 01:25, 4 February 2010 (EST)
