I have been creating a vector street map, but my progress is starting to slow down, since I don't have all the street names. Since you seem to have a lot of knowledge about the city, I wonder if you could take a look at the map I have created and give me some feedback? Also if you have any resources (online or offline) that you could point out, I would be happy. You can find my email address from my user page. Thanks!

That's great, I'd like to help, but unfortunately I've never been great on the street names in Guangzhou - and I've checked, I don't even have a street map of the city at home. Sorry about that. I guess your best bet is to find an old Lonely Planet or Rough Guide for China. The street names won't have changed. (WT-en) WindHorse 21:06, 17 October 2006 (EDT)

Glad you get hold of something. Having a map will really enhance the quality of the article. Sorry, though, that I couldn't be of any help, but Guangzhou is one of those places where I know how to get from A to B but don't know the names of the streets Im passing through. I'm the same with Bangkok. Anyway, good luck. (WT-en) WindHorse 20:06, 18 October 2006 (EDT)

Guangzhou is my hometown, and I'd love to help. I'll be there soon too, and probably I'm able to get couple pictures that represent Guangzhou more. The new map on the page is great -- however, GZ has changed its district last year. So the map is little outdated. If you have a blank map, I may be able to add the information for you. I'm really good with street names too -- so if there's anything specific that you need help on -- leave me a message on my page. As for resources, the city sells a city map that is bilingual (English and Chinese). I got a 2006 edition here at home (I live in California, US). As for resources, I have a TIMEOUT guide to Hong Kong, which has a section on Guangzhou -- that was pretty helpful to foreigners. You can find that on amazon.com. Most online resources seen to be mostly in Chinese, but many are just copying from each other. However, there is a good English site thatsguangzhou.com. You should check that out.--(WT-en) Jianhuang 14:51, 20 October 2006 (EDT)

The bilignual Guangzhou map would be perfect for you for you to do the map. One good place to get at is Beijing Road Pedestrian Street -- there is a block full of bookstores. A tourist map costs 6 yuan. They are also all over the city, for an inflated price. About the redistrict, they combined Fangcun and Liwan to Liwan; Dongshan and Yuexiu to Yuexiu only. And the Northwest part of Tianhe is now on its own as Luogang. As for tourists, I don't think people care too much, though.--(WT-en) Jianhuang 15:23, 20 October 2006 (EDT)

Great job on removing outdated restaurants in Guangzhou! --(WT-en) Jianhuang 11:03, 24 October 2006 (EDT)

Cool! 6 hours are pretty short though. I never flew from that airport, but i picked up my mom from there last month and we took the Airport Express. It took 45 minutes to the city (China Hotel), mostly highway -- traffic was light. The taxi ride will be probably a little shorter, but it costs about 100RMB. The airport express bus (I think we took line #5), which is right outside the arrival exit, costs 16RMB. Too bad that I am not in Guangzhou right now. One thing though -- I don't know if you are flying from another Chinese city. If it is, most likely you already go through custom. If you get out in Guangzhou, you need to go through custom again, which is considered a separate entry to China -- which means you need a multi-entry visa. I assume you take care of this since you've travelled extensively.

When I was at the airport last month, the surrounding, even the airport itself, is under heavy constructions. My grandpa's hometown was actually 5 minutes from the airport called "Renhe(人和)" Unless you want to check out the rural life and a little urban touch, I wouldn't recommend you going there. There's not much famous site around there, but airport workers may have some ideas for people who have layovers -- since this must be a common question for them.

But you'll have couple days in GZ later, which there will be plenty of time. It would be a good to hear from a more foreigners' perspective, especially food. When I am in Guangzhou, I go and eat places where locals go and eat. About the maps I mentioned before, all 7-Eleven sells maps for 15 yuan. - Jianhuang December 16.
