Fabrica di Roma
Help to translate our Guide in Wikivoyage
editHi, I'am a collaborator of municipality of Fabrica di Roma, a country in province of Viterbo (Italie), and already I created a Guide on this platform in Italian, and I would like to create the English version. Can you help me to crete a right template in which I put our texts? Excuse me for my bad English. Best regards, --Fabrica di Roma (talk) 08:44, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
- Ciao, Fabrica di Roma. Benvenuto al Wikivoyage Inglese! We already have a Viterbo guide that looks like it contains more content than it:Viterbo. So just merge any additional information from the Italian-language article into the preexisting Viterbo article on this site (and you might want to also merge some information to it.wikivoyage).
- Since a few policies and practices are different here (though most are the same), I'll link our Manual of style for you to look at at your leisure.
- A più tardi,
- Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:41, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Ikan Kekek, if I have understand correctly, we should add our text of "Fabrica di Roma" in the tour guide "Viterbo", but we can not create a new one? I have copied the template of the tourist guide of Viterbo and I would change it for "Fabrica di Roma". Is it possible to do this? Best regards, --Fabrica di Roma (talk) 08:44, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
- Ikan Kekek, I think there's a misunderstanding. She's looking for support to create here the article of Fabrica di Roma adapting the original one: it:Fabrica di Roma. --Andyrom75 (talk) 09:04, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
- Oh, I see I missed the fact that this is a comune in the province of Viterbo. OK, I'll have a look at the Italian text when I have a chance. Yes, I should be able to help. Thanks, Andyrom. Ikan Kekek (talk) 14:09, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

- I created the Fabrica di Roma article and started translating and editing from the Italian version. I am encapsulating some of it, at least for now. I'll have a look through the "History" section some time later. My feeling is that anything in it that would particularly spark the interest of a reader and potential visitor, or which would help them get the context for what they're looking at when they visit, would be good to include, but it is probably not necessary to include so much detail. Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:43, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks Ikan Kekek for your help. I have already traslated all text but with Google Traslated and I have started to correct something. If you want I will edit all sections and then you modify text and remove those useless. Can I put images? Best regards, --Patrizia (discussioni) 08:15, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
- Sure, go ahead. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:30, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hi, I just reverted (deleted) your addition of a quote by a knight, because I think almost no readers from outside Italy will have any idea who he was, or why it's important for us to know. However, I'm not sure I did the right thing. So I think that from now on, I will just let you do your thing and you can tell me when you're finished editing. At that point, I will edit out a lot of what I think is unnecessary, just as you suggested above. If you'd like to restore your edit, just revert my action, and I'll leave it for now, though I can't speak for any other user. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:17, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
- Oh, ok, it isn't problem! I think that you have reason, but I whant only to make curious the user. I edit all text and then you can modify if it is necessary. Thanks, --Patrizia (discussioni) 09:26, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
- I work until 11 am everyday and I will finish to edit text in few days. Best regards, --Patrizia (discussioni) 09:33, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you. I will wait patiently, though I can't speak for others. When I do start to edit, if you feel that I'm taking too much content out, please don't hesitate to express your opinion and give reasons. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:33, 10 December 2014 (UTC)

- I did a little more work and have some questions. Please have a look at my edit summaries here. Grazie. Ikan Kekek (talk) 00:09, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- I really think this is going to take me a long time, because the text is pretty complex. Anyway, do you intend to write an article about Falerii Novi, and does it even really merit an article of its own, beyond the "See" listing in Fabrica di Roma? Perhaps the red links to it should be removed. Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:31, 21 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Ikan Kekek, I am sorry that Guide this is going to take you a long time, I removed the red links, but at present I can not write an article about Falerii Novi, I will do it in a few months. Thank you for your help and I wish you Happy New Year. Ciao, --Patrizia (discussioni) 08:16, 29 December 2014 (UTC)

Section Do
editHi Ikan Kekek , I would like to know because the section Do don’t align oneself on the right late. Thanks, --Patrizia (discussioni) 08:40, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
Dynamic map.
editHi Ikan Kekek, is it possible to insert a dymamic map of Fabrica di Roma onto the section Get aournd, how in the Italian version? Thaks,--Patrizia (discussioni) 08:41, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
- Sure.
- In answer to your question above, I right-aligned all images, but at some point later, I think it will make sense to distribute them a little more throughout the article.
- I also like the idea of an "Orientation" section, as there is in the Italian version. We don't use that as a first-order subsection, but it would certainly be possible to have such a sub-section within "Understand." Ikan Kekek (talk) 12:20, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
Modifications requests.
editHi Ikan Kekek, the term “tamburo” in a Church is traslated in tholobate, excuse me if i don’t traslate it before. I have found a link in wikipedia too, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tholobate I make a mistake for the opening hours for Sta Maria in Falleri, I have corrected it. Ciao, --Patrizia (discussioni) 08:13, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you. I have no idea what a tholobate is, but I guess people can look that up. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:19, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
Publication of the Guide
editHi Ikan Kekek, I’m sorry if I disturb you; I would like to know if we can promote the publication of our Guide of Fabrica di Roma. Ciao, --Patrizia (discussioni) 07:58, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
- Sorry for not editing that article for a while. I really could use help from some other people, but I'll do some work soon. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:34, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
Newsstand
editI have a question for you on content.
Here's the original from it:Fabrica di Roma:
Secondo un’antica tradizione locale, la Chiesa di Santa Maria della Pietà sorse intorno ad un’edicola raffigurante la Vergine con il Bambino risalente, probabilmente, alla metà del XV secolo.
Here's the translation:
According to an old local tradition, the Church of Santa Maria della Pietà was built around a newsstand depicting the Virgin and Child dating back probably to the middle of the fifteenth century.
I don't think they had newsstands in the 15th century, did they? Can you please describe the structure that is being referred to, and what would have been sold there? Was it a bookstore or some kind of kiosk selling books? Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:44, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Ikan Kekek, you get the better of this question. The translation of word “edicola” is attributed at small chapel and I have found on the Dictionary the translation of this in “shrine”. So the traslation is:
According to an old local tradition, the Church of Santa Maria della Pietà was built around a shire ( a small chapel) depicting the Virgin and Child dating back probably to the middle of the fifteenth century. Excuse me for the bad English in the translation of the Guide…..Ciao, --Patrizia (discussioni) 09:22, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
- Great. That's a very understandable translation. I was getting "newsstand" from Google translate, just like you, but it didn't seem to make sense. I will substitute "shrine" in both places where I saw "newsstand." Thank you. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:31, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
- Many thanks to you! Ciao, --Patrizia (discussioni) 09:50, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
More translation/meaning help
editCiao, Patrizia! I've edited most of the sections other than "Do," at this point, but the first "Do" listing is quite a challenge for me. I consult the it.voy version while looking at the current en.voy version, and while my Italian is OK, I'm only really an advanced intermediate in reading and writing, except probably in my field of music. So please help me with this phrase:
mentre dal Castello della Rocca scende una fitta e luminosa bengalata di accoglienza
Here's the full context:
I think I've understood it OK until that last phrase. I can't find a translation for "bengalata," and I'm not completely sure who's descending from the Rocca. I'm guessing it's the same people who sprinted up the hill with the icon of the saint, being applauded while descending from the Rocca. Can you help me understand and translate this phrase, please?
Grazie e ciao,
Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:56, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
- Ciao Ikan Kekek, the word “bengalata” means the fireworks considered as a whole. Many thanks, --Patrizia (discussioni) 07:52, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you. I will try translating that phrase now. By the way, "crescendo" is a good English word! :-) Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:56, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
- Sorry, --Patrizia (discussioni) 08:10, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
- It's quite alright! Your impulse to decrease the number of Latin-origin words in a translation to English is a good one; just don't go too far. :-) English does use quite a lot of Latin-origin words, and some from Italian, as you see. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:23, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Ikan Kekek, excuse me if I disturb you. I would like know if it is complete the traslate of the Guide … Thanks you, --Patrizia (discussioni) 07:42, 15 January 2015 (UTC)
- Perhaps you'd like to solicit more volunteers to help out. Otherwise, please be patient. I've done a fair amount of work on the article, but each entry is pretty long and complicated. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:03, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

Another Italian language question
editI don't really fully understand this text from the entry on Area della Biodiversità at it:Fabrica di Roma:
l’antichissima fonte scavata a cunicolo detta de "Lullurullu"
What is this the source of?
All the best,
Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:14, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Ikan Kekek, the translate should be this: the ancient spring water that was dug at burrow, it is known as
“Lullurullu”. Ciao, --Patrizia (discussioni) 15:32, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
Image on Main Banner
editHi Ikan Kekek, after to check my images, one of controllers has decided to cancel all my images, and too my photography used to main banner. I have explained with him and I have loaded once again my photo in Commons ( then I put all images that missed in Commons!), but I dont' know put the images in Main Banner. How I do? The images is Fabrica di Roma - Un bel Panorama.jpg Ciao, --Patrizia (discussioni) 09:23, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
- Hi, Patrizia. So the problems that caused Commons to delete the photos before were resolved? For your question about how to create a banner, please look at Wikivoyage:Banner Expedition#Creating a banner and keep reading as necessary, but isn't the procedure the same at it.voy? Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:51, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
- No, Ikan Kekek, the template used in it.voy is different. The talk is visible in Commons under the voice Fabrica di Roma. I have read your link and I have resolved. Thank you,--Patrizia (discussioni) 10:26, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
Html codes
editHow are you? I wish you a Happy Easter in a few days! But why are you using html codes in the Fabrica di Roma article? If it's really necessary to use hard returns, why not just press the "Enter" key? Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:21, 3 April 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Ikan Kekek, isn't it the same? When I use the Enter key the images dont' align well. I wish you a Happy Easter in a few days too. Ciao, --Patrizia (discussioni) 08:14, 3 April 2015 (UTC)
- Html codes are frowned upon on this site: See Wikivoyage:Avoid HTML. I'm not sure why there's a problem with images. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:37, 3 April 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Ikan Kekek, ok for the problem of html codes, but now how do I to put on images at our place? For example: the images of Palazzo Cencelli Fabrica can't be in the area Do. Do you put in order this? Can I press only the "Enter" key? Thanks, --Patrizia (discussioni) 07:23, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
- Just put images anywhere they look good. They can always be moved around later. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:00, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
- It seems like you'd like to have all the thumbnail images in the "See" section. That's really not the style of en.voy. We tend to like to space the images throughout the article so that if there are a lot of images in an article, we can see one on every screen. As long as they have clear captions, people will know what they're looking at. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:27, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
- But the line that break so between sections See and Do, to me this seems unsightly. But if it likes to you ...Ciao, --Patrizia (discussioni) 08:54, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
- I don't find that a big deal. What bugs me is that the photos are all bunched up in one section. But it's hardly an urgent issue. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:09, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
