== Thanks for noticing my "BalI' efforts, J ! As I am new to Wiki, can you tell me if there is any other way to communicate w/other authors..editing their ""talk" page seems a little clumsy !

I notice we have several other common interests ! Cheers & thanks ...T/bot

Bangkok Drink and Prostitution?Edit

Is there some reason you wish to emphasize areas of prostitution in the drink section for Bangkok? This is not appropriate and is insulting. Drink does not mean prostitutes and the appropriate bars in this section need to be changed to the places that people actually go to.

I've yet to find a first-time visitor to Bangkok who wasn't interested in checking out a go-go bar; it really is entirely possible to go in, have a beer, and leave. But further discussion on Talk:Bangkok, please. (WT-en) Jpatokal 06:16, 1 Feb 2006 (EST)

Actually I agree with the originator of this statement - there is no room for prostitution discussion in a drink section. It should have either its own section or no use at all in the article area. 10:36, 29 October 2006 (EST)

I would recommend more info on the bargirls under the drink section, as the two go hand in hand (literally). Those who think otherwise have never been there or are too uptight / religious.

So, thinking about the discussion on Project:star articles, I realized that I've never publicly thanked you for the incredible job you do with Wikivoyage. Your contributions worldwide, your participation in the community, and your leadership have been instrumental in making this project a success.

I just wanted to give you this Barnstar to say thanks for everything you've done. --(WT-en) Evan 14:31, 1 Jan 2006 (EST)

Chinese names capitalizationEdit

Thanks for correcting my "NanDaJie" -> "Nandajie" in the Xi'an article. I just got used to the Taiwanese system. R u familiar with Chinese language?

Only slightly, and most of that thanks to studying Japanese... (WT-en) Jpatokal 22:34, 7 Jan 2006 (EST)

I've just uploaded two images: 'Swansea Bay and University' and 'Mumbles Head and Swansea Bay'. However, I cannot get them to download onto the Swansea article. The former should be at the top, next to 'Understand' section, while the former should be located nett to the 'See' - Parks and scenic areas section. May I request your kind help, sir. Thanks. Gangwon - Copyright issuesEdit

Please see Talk:Gangwon and User talk:(WT-en) Okay95 to give an opinion on a copyright permission from the Gangwon Provincial Government. -- (WT-en) Huttite 07:12, 20 Jan 2006 (EST)

You did some work on Template:ISBN before you redirected it to the special page for book sources. Why? Can the special page be used in a link the way the template could? If so, how? --(WT-en) Ravikiran 11:57, 22 Jan 2006 (EST)

That works. Thanks. --(WT-en) Ravikiran 02:55, 23 Jan 2006 (EST)

Sepang official websiteEdit

The website for Sepang District Council[1] is only a one page site and appears to be mostly in Mayla, I guess. That is the reason I removed it and didn't move it to the top. My thoughts were it is not worth the click and we should wait till something of use is on the site. -- (WT-en) Xltel 13:31, 1 Feb 2006 (EST)

Dogo Onsen AdviceEdit

I'm thinking of finally experiencing Dogo Onsen. Would you recommend going at around noon on a Friday in Autumn? - (WT-en) JRHorse 23:55, 10 Feb 2006 (EST)

Why not? Doesn't really matter when you go, it's a big building and the cheap baths are all buried in the basement. The whole place isn't worth more than a day max tho. (WT-en) Jpatokal 02:42, 12 Feb 2006 (EST)

Statscript needs updatingEdit

Apparently Special:Statistics now uses commas to separate digits, so this week's stats upload is wonky. -- (WT-en) Colin 19:22, 23 February 2006 (EST)

Statscript just uploaded stats... which were identical to last weeks. -- (WT-en) Colin 19:22, 2 March 2006 (EST)

How's things? I'm trying to hit as many people as possible with new messages to see if the darn indicator works. --(WT-en) Evan 21:54, 5 March 2006 (EST)

Don't mean to be nosey, but... did you read your messages by looking at the diffs? I think that might be the problem -- I don't think I'm clearing the image out in that case. --(WT-en) Evan 22:22, 5 March 2006 (EST)
Yes I did, and this time it cleared out the blinky ball. Joy! But could you also make the ball a part of the link to My talk? And would a blinky "new" be more informative? (WT-en) Jpatokal 22:34, 5 March 2006 (EST)
Making it a part of the link would be a good idea... If it had text in it, though, I'd have to make 10 different versions, one for each language. Another possibility would be to have a blinky red background to the "my talk" link... hmmm. --(WT-en) Evan 22:49, 5 March 2006 (EST)

Hot springsEdit

Thanks for the contributions there. It is of course far better to have text about the springs, rather than just the list of relevant pages that I was assembling. However, I wanted to get something in place to justify keeping the page. I'm looking forward to similar additions. What do you know about European springs? -- (WT-en) Bill-on-the-Hill 08:55, 17 March 2006 (EST)

I was hoping you would volunteer for the DOTM-pushing chore so I could go to sleep. -- (WT-en) Colin 04:22, 1 April 2006 (EST)

Very nice. -- (WT-en) Colin 04:29, 1 April 2006 (EST)
I must admit, my mind wasn't quite warped enough to think of that. :-) -- (WT-en) Bill-on-the-Hill 09:50, 1 April 2006 (EST)

Template bordersEdit

Apologies if the border changes were controversial - I never noticed the difference until seeing them all together on the Project:Template index page, and after a quick perusal of several pages assumed that the difference was likely just something that had gone overlooked. I'm used to working at companies where inconsistencies are generally something that are likely to cause some manager to freak out, and need to remember that on this site it's changes that are more likely to cause people to freak. Sorry for not discussing first. -- (WT-en) Ryan 04:51, 3 April 2006 (EDT)

Listing tagsEdit

I moved the discussion on listings to Project:Listings. I'd like to experiment before making this "the" way to do listings. --(WT-en) Evan 13:37, 5 April 2006 (EDT)

Shared imagesEdit

Since you seem to be the guru of Wikivoyage:shared I'm hoping you might be able to clarify the process for shared images. I've uploaded Image:01-denali-from-reflection-pond.jpg to shared, an image that was previously only uploaded to en:. After uploading I set the "isIn" to "Denali National Park" (should it have just been Alaska?) and then created "Category:Denali National Park". Once that was done I deleted the en: version of the image. Is that about right, or should I be doing things differently? -- (WT-en) Ryan 06:31, 7 April 2006 (EDT)

I have a Q for you. Why is it when I placed this tag Brabant in Leuven it didn't list the continent or country this region and city is located in? (WT-en) Sapphire 11:56, 8 April 2006 (EDT)

I'm answering on your talk page, Sapphire. --(WT-en) Evan 12:01, 8 April 2006 (EDT)

Thanks for your help with User:(WT-en) Shalom Alechem. I've been trying to make sure he is the owner of these images. If you consult his Wikimedia Commons account[2] it seems some of the users there had to delete his images because of apparent copyvios. I felt like I was trying to do it by myself (ensuring that these images were compliant with the copyleft. (WT-en) Sapphire 13:06, 8 April 2006 (EDT)

StatScript uploaded the same numbers as last week -- I hand-corrected the output. Html tables are broken in general on the wiki right now, so ignore the current presentation and just look at the diffs. -- (WT-en) Colin 21:17, 13 April 2006 (EDT)

Again. -- (WT-en) Colin 20:59, 27 April 2006 (EDT)

It seems to think pl has -1 articles instead of the more usual 32. -- (WT-en) Colin 20:45, 11 May 2006 (EDT)

You know, if it wasn't my favorite page on the wiki, I probably wouldn't bug you so much. -- (WT-en) Colin 20:46, 11 May 2006 (EDT)

I had to correct it this week. I also added the column for it: while I was at it. -- (WT-en) Colin 20:42, 15 June 2006 (EDT)

pl: and it: had bad data collections from statscript this week. It was pretty blantant since it: has more good articles linked from the main page than StatScript reported to exist on all of it:. -- (WT-en) Colin 20:37, 29 June 2006 (EDT)

Mmmm. Shiny stderr goodness! -- (WT-en) Colin 20:28, 13 July 2006 (EDT)

Graphs are updated at shared. -- (WT-en) Colin 00:33, 17 October 2006 (EDT)

To SharedEdit

Do you think StatScript can handle it if we move Project:Multilingual statistics to Wikivoyage Shared? -(WT-en) Ricardo (Rmx) 22:50, 14 August 2006 (EDT)

Plants on SvalbardEdit

"the only visible vegetation is a brownish green moss, the color of dead grass, that sprouts patchily up the mountainsides."

The wikipedia article mentions lots of plants. 3 (WT-en) Jer ome 03:37, 14 April 2006 (EDT)

Most of which are rare and flower only briefly in spring, hence the "visible". As usual, feel free to plunge forward and write up more details! (WT-en) Jpatokal 04:06, 14 April 2006 (EDT)
Heh, maybe I will when I've been there. My friend is visiting in July -- I'll make her update it. (WT-en) Jer ome 14:13, 14 April 2006 (EDT)

Japanese issuesEdit

Hey, so, I did a database upgrade and messed up some articles and user names with non-Latin chars. Not all, but some. I'm trying to fix them right now, but it's going to be about an hour or so. Could you communicate this to ja: please? They and de: are the hardest hit. --(WT-en) Evan 04:01, 19 April 2006 (EDT)

Wall and DomeEdit

By any chance have you already uploaded your image taken in Jerusalem title "JewishQ_WallAndDome.jpg"? (WT-en) Sapphire 23:38, 25 April 2006 (EDT)

You mean this? No, I haven't, but I think the one currently in Jerusalem gives a much better picture for the traveler and is better as a photo to boot. (WT-en) Jpatokal 23:44, 25 April 2006 (EDT)
I forgot about the one on Jerusalem. I'm just trying to find something that shows the prayers at the Wall and one that doesn't need a model release. (WT-en) Sapphire 23:48, 25 April 2006 (EDT)

Thanks for the honorEdit

Thank you for the Barnstar... I'd give one to you in return for all of your help, but I see you already have one :)

P.S. I see you've stumbled upon my Japan '07 page... please feel free to add suggestions whenever you see fit. (WT-en) JRHorse 00:00, 26 April 2006 (EDT)

Dulling down in Tel-AvivEdit

Hi Jpatokal,

I'd just like to draw your attention to one of those dullifying events. A new user who seems to be an American with an Israel thing has been working on Israel.. not that that's bad at all. It's just that to me "The most orthadox town in the world" seems a more interesting place to visit than "a suburb, with a very large population of people who practice orthadox judaism."

Anyhow, I was going to welcome the guy/gal, and point this out, but I though it might be better to consult with one of those of us who know the area better. -- (WT-en) Mark 10:47, 27 April 2006 (EDT)

Upload textEdit

Would you give an editorial looksee to MediaWiki:Uploadtext? --(WT-en) Evan 08:12, 29 April 2006 (EDT)

Raw statsEdit

Hey, so, I'm still coming up empty on the magic words for pl:. One thing I wanted to ask: have you seen the raw statistics output? That might be easier to parse and seems to return the right data. --(WT-en) Evan 12:43, 29 April 2006 (EDT)

Image MissingEdit

Hi - just wanted to mention the image entitled "Street market - Jln Petaling" on the Kuala Lumpur page is no longer showing. (WT-en) Wdominic 12:22, 1 May 2006

Hi. Got your message. It's weird. I don't see it on the KL page using my computer? Want me to email you a screen grab? (WT-en) Wdominic 12:22, 1 May 2006

Bulk uploads to sharedEdit

Hi, Jpatokal. A few weeks ago, Evan said that maybe you've been considering a mass upload of flags and maps to Shared. That would be very useful, especially for the newer language versions of Wikivoyage. If you're really planning that, please feel free to contact me if you think I could be of any help. Thanks, (WT-en) Ricardo (Rmx) 14:45, 2 May 2006 (EDT)

Now that it's done, thanks a lot for your work! (WT-en) Ricardo (Rmx) 18:49, 9 May 2006 (EDT)
Hello Jpatokal, have seen you added some maps and flags to shared. It would be very useful, if you could add the location tag when uploading, so that users can find the images in the appropriate categories! Cheers, (WV-en) Felix - 23/May/2006, 18:16 GMT
Unfortunately the uploads were automated (they're finished now) and I have no easy way of matching CIA's filename abbreviations to country names. (WT-en) Jpatokal 13:33, 23 May 2006 (EDT)

External linksEdit

I just reverted a couple of edits of a new user and sent him/her to Project:External links to read over policy, but I'm not sure if the policy page illustrates the proper policy. I thought the policy for linking to an external link was something like this: A new tramway [4] serves the town... or is it like this: A new tramway serves the town? Thanks. (WT-en) Sapphire 01:07, 14 May 2006 (EDT)

Sex tourism policyEdit

I recently added something to the discussion there which you were an active participant in. Section title "A different comparison". Have a look, perhaps comment? (WT-en) Pashley 06:30, 18 May 2006 (EDT)

Sado Island breadcrumb fixedEdit

You reported:

Breadcrumbs are flaking out pretty badly recently: eg Sado Island's trail finds its way two steps up to Niigata and Chubu but stops there, while Chubu then goes all the way to Asia. What's going on? (WT-en) Jpatokal 08:46, 20 May 2006 (EDT)

My answer

Jpatokal, I fixed the problem on Sado Island. The problem is this people use the tags incorrectly or place them in the wrong spot:
 • WikiPedia:Sado Island
 • Niigata_(prefecture)
 • guide

when in face the isIn tag should come first. I don't know why it requires this order but it should go like this:

 • Niigata_(prefecture)
 • WikiPedia:Sado Island
 • guide

Does that make any sense to you? I spent. a great deal of time experimenting with the isIn tag to figure out how exactly it work and I stumbled on the solution. - Andrew Haggard (Sapphire)

Any chance you have any images that we could use on the Pattaya article? - (WT-en) Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 22:36, 23 May 2006 (EDT)

"Is that you Willy?" If you ask, my respone will be 'PAGENAME has been vandalised by a Willy on Wheels impersonator'

Anyway, you have helped answer most of my question, but one thing still unansweed is about the average height of the people there, there is popular beleief that people tend to be shorter where there is not as much sunlight (although if it is really the case, it is probaly the strange food they eat). And that comment you made about blond(e), far skinned people, arer you stating that if they live a life without (much) exopsure to sunlight and suddenly move to the tropics and get sudden high exposure to UV their get *more* sunburnt then if they have already have been exposed to it, does skin adapt or something, does wikivoyage have an article on this topic? (WT-en) Fucking, Austria

Could you please create a Don't know template on the Shared site? Also, could you give input on wts:Wikivoyage_Shared:Deletion policy. There are a few copyvios and I'd like to get input on how the VFD process should be set up over there. - (WT-en) Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 02:35, 1 June 2006 (EDT)

Rant at Netherlands pageEdit

You reinserted a section at the Netherlnds page which consisted entirely of a rant. Although the section 'Respect' may be valid, it is not intended for this sort of rant. Did you read the contents before you re-inserted it? (WT-en) Wesopa 07:17, 9 June 2006 (EDT)

Los AngelesEdit

Thanks for cleaning up the Los Angeles/Downtown article - I don't get out in the city enough that I've ever wanted to take a stab at it, but it looks much better now. It also looks like you found Philippe's, which would have been one of my top recommendations. If you're here for a few more days you might also want to check out the bar on top of the Standard hotel - it's ridiculously overpriced, but it's such an LA spot that it's worth a visit. And if you happen to be in Culver City and need a lunch partner, drop me an email - my schedule is pretty open this week. -- (WT-en) Ryan 03:15, 19 June 2006 (EDT)

Which publication included the Paris maps in their paper guide? - Sapphire

Some Paris free-tourist-map service; see the Pub for more discussion. It wasn't a "real" guide like LP or anything like that though. (WT-en) Jpatokal 00:31, 23 June 2006 (EDT)

frequent flierEdit

Hi Jpatokal - I noticed you're quite active on this site. I'm working on a site for frequent fliers at FF. I thought given how much you tragel, you might be interested in helping us! Thanks. Gil

Hi & thanksEdit

Jpatokal - Thanks for the encouragement. It looks like our paths may have come close to crossing a few times in the past therefore I'm not surprised that we have a few travel interests in common: spas, hot springs, public baths and massages. And keep up the good work, your contributions make Wikivoyage great. (WT-en) Johnycanal 13:36, 03 July 2006 (PST)

Just to let you know so you can fix it the link your provided in Jakarta doesn't work. If I remove the .id I get a Singaporean website. -- (WT-en) Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 02:38, 9 July 2006 (EDT)

I think you may have been (WT-en) staring at your computer screen for far too long tonight ;) Nice work on that though - Bill was probably starting to get callouses on his fingers due to the nightly update job. -- (WT-en) Ryan 04:04, 11 July 2006 (EDT)

Very interesting. Now tell me: is the bot smart enough to make sure that all three Discover entries aren't from the same country, and stuff like that? -- (WT-en) Bill-on-the-Hill 09:01, 11 July 2006 (EDT)
Were you? (grin, duck, run) - (WT-en) Todd VerBeek 09:12, 11 July 2006 (EDT)
No, it's a big bot with a very small brain. But, you know, in this postindustrial era of outsourced value-adding synergies <handwave> it's just not competitive to employ actual humans, when scripts residing on servers in low-cost countries with employer-friendly policies like no limits on working hours and the right to execute worker threads whenever you wish is just so much more efficient. (WT-en) Jpatokal 10:46, 11 July 2006 (EDT)

Bombs in BombayEdit

We have been putting up with this since 1993, so I guess we are used to it. — (WT-en) Ravikiran 04:45, 12 July 2006 (EDT)

Japanese addressesEdit

Hi, could you help me with my question about romanization of Japanese addresses please? (WT-en) Bobo12345 06:42, 22 July 2006 (EDT)

Thanks for helping me with the formatting. It's my first article.

Details question.Edit

I noticed you just removed the details about hours of operation, admission charges, and telephone numbers for some attractions in the See section of the Hamamatsu page. Any particular reason I should know about?

Edit: Sorry for a false accusation!-- I must have done it myself when I submitted and got an error.

Can you try again?Edit

Hey, so, can I ask you to try the OpenID thing again?

 1. Go to wts:Special:OpenIDConvert
 2. Enter "" .
 3. When it asks if it's OK to share the information, just say yes.
 4. You should be logged in then.
 5. Go to wts:Special:Userlogout to logout of shared.
 6. Go to wts:Special:OpenIDLogin to login.
 7. Enter ""

Let me know how it goes. --(WT-en) Evan 23:45, 29 July 2006 (EDT)

Small favorEdit

Hi Jani - small favor to ask. I'm trying to track down a UTF-8 issue with JAMWiki that I'm completely unable to reproduce. I assume you use a non-English operating system, so could I bother you to edit this page and try to add some non-ASCII text? I'm trying to track down why edits get garbled for some users and not others, and thus far haven't been able to figure out a pattern. There's no hurry, but it shouldn't take you more than 30 seconds and would be a gigantic help to me. Thanks! -- (WT-en) Ryan 02:55, 1 August 2006 (EDT)

Thanks! Sadly your edit looks to have gone through perfectly, so I'm still at a complete loss as to what's going wrong 8-) -- (WT-en) Ryan 03:12, 1 August 2006 (EDT)

Old Klang RoadEdit

Old Klang Road is name of a long road in housing area with lots of shophouses and this road is famous with furniture shops as we all know in KL. The foods over there is not so famous except the Steven's Corner Restaurant and a Chinese restaurant at 4.5 miles off Old Kland Road. You may refer to books entitled 吃在吉隆坡 Chi Zai Ji Long Po(ISBN 983-9768-70-0) and 食在吉隆坡 Shi Zai Ji Long Po (ISBN 962-8141-09-0).

Sukhumvit/ budget--contactEdit

sorry new to this . Can you clarify for me what it was that I did wrong so I won't repeat it. I'm not on kasemsan road and did'nt want readers to think so ( as I'm sure they would think big johns and royal Nana are the first and second on Soi Kasemsan 1 when they are located much further away in nana and thong lo) so I put soi 1 guesthouse above it. is that what I did wrong? and/or was Line 174 to descriptive?

Accepted description Not far from Siam Square proper is Soi Kasemsan 1. About ten minutes walk from the Siam stop on the Skytrain, or just at the foot of the National Stadium station, directly across from the stadium itself, Soi Kasemsan 1 is very convenient and quiet. Jim Thompson House is on the sidestreet one block further down Rama I Rd. There are several hotels, mainly down the left side of the street as you walk from Rama I. Here they are in order.

not accepted At the Center of the city at the start of Sukhumvit rd is Phloen chit BTS station (E2 on skytrain map). Going east from here the side streets (Soi's) on the left are odd numbered and on the right even numbered. the first street on the left as you cross the railroad tracks is Soi 1.Bumrungrad Hospital is at the end. Budget accomidation is new to this area and the only one found on Soi 1 is.

about line 4.... "up to Soi 25". Sukhumvit is long and the road side markets do stop at this point. was this to much information?

about line 221.Contact... we do have a seperate internet cafe that is open to the public and Many people using Bumrungrad hospital are quite happy to find us ( they charge 3 baut a minute there) if "soi 1 guesthouse" is not right could I say "Soi 1 internet cafe" and list the same address ( diff phone #) ?

sorry to be such a noob, And Hope not to be a problem for you again.( i did read the "don't tout") I won't make anymore changes/ additions untill I'm sure they in the proper format.

thanks for your time.

Keep an eye outEdit

Since you're more inclined to find obscure information would you please keep an eye out for a reference to Wikivoyage in the UK's Guardian news paper. I met a reporter and he seemed more interested in Wikivoyage than the Mediawiki Foundation and Wikipedia so there may be a reference (at the very least) to Wikivoyage. -- (WT-en) Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 14:05, 5 August 2006 (EDT)

Multiple projectsEdit

Hi - thanks for the note on World Wiki. I noticed you're in Singapore - I've been a frequent visitor to singapore, it's a beautiful place, although a bit steamy this time of year. I can tell you that Wikia's goals for travel are a bit different than Internet Brands. Based on my understanding from Even (I can certainly be wrong), we are more open to links to third party information sources, more open to POV, and willing to go deeper. For instance, we have 250 pages on churches in Rome, vs one page on Rome. I'm not saying one is right, just that the theory of letting multiple flowers bloom is a good one. Gil

Seoul Subway ChargesEdit

Are you sure that the subway charges in Seoul have increased? I was there last week and the cheapest ticket was definitely 900 (800 if using T-money)... ? (WT-en) Bobo12345 07:57, 9 August 2006 (EDT)

I'm in the tedious process of moving every image on EN to Shared. Can I ask which licenses you wish your images to be available under? Thanks. -- (WT-en) Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 06:05, 12 August 2006 (EDT)

That sounds insanely tedious. Maybe we should do that with a script, instead. --(WT-en) Evan 14:40, 16 August 2006 (EDT)

Template preloadingEdit

Please see my response on Project:Feature_requests#Template_preloading. -- (WT-en) Sapphire 04:48, 13 August 2006 (EDT)

Do the webalizer stats track how many users have viewed the Budapest article or do you know of anything that does track that? I'm hoping to convince a few government agencies to go through the trouble of relicensing various texts and artworks by proving to the regional governments and organizations that Wikivoyage can help with noticability. I then hope to convince other regional governments and organizations to do the same until I've taken complete control of the world. Any help would be appreciated and I'll give you the title of "Co-dictator of the Eastern Hemisphere." -- (WT-en) Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 00:10, 16 August 2006 (EDT)

I thought you might be interested to know that there's a bid to have Wikimania 2007 in Singapore. Not so fun travelwise for you, but interesting at least. --(WT-en) Evan 14:39, 16 August 2006 (EDT)

why are you changing my entry? Michael

Please see Project:External links. (WT-en) Jpatokal 11:08, 17 August 2006 (EDT)

So why do you leave links like Pasta Dost, and Latter is not, not even in their own didactic, a tourism site. I admit that they are cool, and a good read...but they are neither official, nor unbiased.

In my view,, the only non commercial budapest portal, had a right to be mentioned, but you seem to see this differently - so be it.

Any specific reason why you took to reverting my editing on the Dubai page? Thanks.

Bangkok/ ThailandEdit

Sorry to fill up your talk with this stuff but any cool places in Bangkok not overrun by tourism you know of? I'm gunna be in bangkok for two weeks and Thailan for 3 more weeks so I just wanna know. Throw this on my talk if you want. (WT-en) Felixboy 13:31, 29 August 2006 (EDT)

Thai lawEdit

Do you know anything about Thai law? I asked a user about the copyright status of an image he uploaded and amazingly he actually understands the problem and is trying to help get the problem resolved. He later sent me an email asking a rather technical question - If someone hires a photographer to take a marketing photograph who owns the copyright? The business or the photographer? Since the business is located in Thailand and the photographer was paid in Thailand I'm not positive what to tell him. I figured the business owns the copyright since they hired the photographer, but I'm not sure. -- (WT-en) Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 14:02, 6 September 2006 (EDT)

Depends on the contract between the business and photographer, not the law. By default, the photographer owns the copyright on his works, but he will license them to the business for use. Usually the conditions are quite specific and restrictive, but occasionally the business will demand an exclusive total license, after which they're basically the property of the business and not the photographer. Status Quo on Jakarta PageEdit

Please keep the unannotated listing AS IS for 5 days. Give the ASITA, IHRA, KADIN etc members to put the informations to this page. DO NOT REVERT IT AGAIN!

Does (WT-shared) Kunibotto mean anything? -- (WT-en) Sapphire 01:52, 13 September 2006 (EDT)

Kuni is Japanese for "country" and botto is Japanese for bot. (WT-en) Jpatokal 06:43, 13 September 2006 (EDT)

Looks like your bot has gone on strike; there appear to have been no "Discover" updates since last week.  ??? -- (WT-en) Bill-on-the-Hill 09:40, 13 September 2006 (EDT)

Military coup in ThailandEdit

Hi Here are the news full of reports about a military coup in Thailand. You live in that region. Would you oppose a warningbox on the Bangkok page or does it have no effect on travelers? Thanks and regards, (WT-en) Jc8136 13:37, 19 September 2006 (EDT)

Hard to tell (especially as I'm on the other side of the globe). The government areas of Bangkok seem to be pretty shut down at the momemt, but life seems to be going on as usual elsewhere — although there are disturbing rumors of military units on opposite sides lining up for a fight... (WT-en) Jpatokal 14:56, 19 September 2006 (EDT)
Thanks for the rewrite. I hate the working on the news information, but it seemed like something that should be noted here. Think we should mention anything about the riots in Budapest against the PM there? -- (WT-en) Sapphire 15:14, 19 September 2006 (EDT)
The Budapest thing seems to have been a one-off and that government's fate is most likely going to be decided by democratic means. But the last time there was a coup in Thailand hundreds died... (WT-en) Jpatokal 15:24, 19 September 2006 (EDT)
The German foreign office advised all German citizens to stay at the hotel and avoid public places. So far no official travel warning but rumours are that the airport might be closed tomorrow. (WT-en) Jc8136 17:04, 19 September 2006 (EDT)

Scripts requests and suggestionsEdit

You may want to add EO to the list for the StatScript to do its calculating. EO is officially offline, but several people have already been editing it. -- (WT-en) Sapphire

Dear Grand Poobah of the Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere,
Is there anyway you can mess with your listings scripts that rules over the Project:Listings to allow wiki editing within the "phone=" and "fax=" attributes? I've been messing with international listings and I always find it a little weird when the entire phone number is italicized. I'd prefer that the editor be forced to italicize the calling codes. Plus, it makes the listings a little more MoS conformed. Thanks for considering. -- (WT-en) Sapphire 00:34, 23 September 2006 (EDT)
O Mighty Repository of the Sacred Gems, Emperor of Cincinnati and Protector of Poland,
The listings stuff is not templates, it's all hardcoded Mediawiki hacking by User:(WT-en) Evan, so you'll need to pester him for any changes. (WT-en) Jpatokal 09:52, 23 September 2006 (EDT)

Translation, pleaseEdit

Any chance you could translate this - User talk: Is that spam? -- (WT-en) Sapphire 22:30, 1 October 2006 (EDT)

Trying to read that stretches my meager Chinese skills way past their limit, but it appears to be the resume of some random Chinese chef, listing (among other things) all the Sichuanese dishes he can prepare...!? So, yeah, it is basically spam, just weird spam. (WT-en) Jpatokal 22:38, 1 October 2006 (EDT)

"Someday everybody set outs on a journey" — Shouldn't this be "sets out"? I'd correct it myself, but it is a user page, it is poetry so I can't be sure that it is a mistake. — (WT-en) Ravikiran 00:27, 2 October 2006 (EDT)

Well spotted! Thanks, I've fixed it. (WT-en) Jpatokal 01:23, 2 October 2006 (EDT)
Also, the link you've provided for the poem on the bottom of your user page doesn't work. -- (WT-en) Sapphire 02:00, 6 October 2006 (EDT)
That's because RIAJ are psycho kamikaze ninjas when it comes to hunting down unauthorized lyrics on the net. Replaced it with a link to Wikipedia. (WT-en) Jpatokal 03:06, 6 October 2006 (EDT)

I hadn't even realized that by adding that I was affecting more than a spammer. Ooops. Thanks for catching my mistake. -- (WT-en) Sapphire 04:47, 3 October 2006 (EDT)

Re: External links policy (Phnom Penh)Edit

Hi! Thanks for clarifying the Wikivoyage external links policy on linking to other travel guides. Would it be ok to mention the (paper version of) the Phnom Penh Visitors Guide without linking to the website? I found it a really good resource when I got to the city. (WT-en) hopha 14:29, 6 October 2006 (EDT)

Mount SinaiEdit

When you visited Mount Sinai did you happen to stay at the monastery's hostel or did you stay in St. Catherines village? I'd like to add a few sleep listings to the Mount Sinai article and was wondering if you had any additional information. -- (WT-en) Sapphire 00:39, 8 October 2006 (EDT)

I daytripped (or, rather, nighttripped) from Dahab. (WT-en) Jpatokal 01:06, 8 October 2006 (EDT)

Some issuesEdit

Hello, thanks for the welcome. It seems more Singapore-based users are needed here. Do we have lack of pictures for Singapore pages? It seems you are more active here rather than Wikipedia, so now I know where you are usually. ;) Do you have Yahoo Messenger 8 BETA or Windows Live, so we can talk? --(WT-en) Terence Ong 07:13, 11 October 2006 (EDT)

It seems like my huge cluster of pics on Commons is not really needed here, just a selected few. --(WT-en) Terence Ong 07:25, 11 October 2006 (EDT)
Can I upload a pic of Funan and two of Raffles City but different angles and views. For example, one interior and one exterior? For use in the same article. Also, is there an upload limit for pictures? --(WT-en) Terence Ong 08:32, 11 October 2006 (EDT)

Surreptitious rollbackEdit

My bad -- I was fooled by the fact that Google did not immediately suggest a correction when I Googled it. Thanks for catching that. -- (WT-en) Jonboy 13:40, 11 October 2006 (EDT)

We shouldn't include such a big areas of Riverside. I suggest a split, with Marina Centre and Marina Bay forming a new page and the Bras Basah, City Hall area forming another page. --(WT-en) Terence Ong 23:49, 11 October 2006 (EDT)

Hi Jpatokal Most of your edits and condensations are fine by me (especially correcting my spelling or other mistakes)! However, I do not agree with the one on the hotels. Please refer to the Japan discussion page for my explanation.

Hi thereEdit

I don't really remember how to answer people on the wiki-page layout, but anyways, thanks for your greeting and indeed, all the pictures from Tel Aviv were taken by myself. :)

Hi againEdit

The truth is that I don't know how to add my name to those pictures. But if it's not necessary, I can't say I'm too troubled by that. And thanks for the compliment, it's always very nice to hear. :)

Thank you for your help! :)Edit

help save the Eurail articleEdit

Greetings. I tried to make a modified version of your districtify template for the 'get out' section of the Bangalore article, but failed miserably. If you get the chance, could you take a look and do what you can to correct my efforts. Thanks a lot. I appreciate your help. (WT-en) WindHorse 08:47, 31 October 2006 (EST)

it's itsEdit

doesn't it's also apply when showing possession? Maybe I'm remembering my English lessons incorrectly... or perhaps it's its' (WT-en) Cacahuate 08:46, 2 November 2006 (EST)

Nope. Common error. "It's" is a contraction for "it is", and the possessive of "it" is "its" (no apostrophe). --(WT-en) Evan 10:41, 2 November 2006 (EST)
Gracias Senor Evan! IT'S not going to happen again... (WT-en) Cacahuate 03:44, 4 November 2006 (EST)

If you get a chance, I'd like to hear your opinion about Project:Region article template#Itineraries. I think the related pages tool can do the same job. --(WT-en) Evan 23:01, 14 November 2006 (EST)

Split of Singapore/RiversideEdit

Hello. If there are no further objections, can we split the section as we planned some time back. Also, we should expand our scope of ASEAN on this travel guide. Do Wikivoyagers collaborate here to improve the travel guide? --(WT-en) Terence Ong 00:33, 16 November 2006 (EST)

Ok, will take note of that. Just very used to the way of doing things on the way its done on Wikipedia and in other places. Should be editing here more. (WT-en) Terence Ong 06:41, 29 November 2006 (EST)

Landmine museumEdit

If I ever get around to Siem Reap I definately want to check out the landmine museum, but I have two question: 1. Which street is it on? 2. Is it safe? I don't want to risk touching one and it being the only one that wasn't defused? Also, I think this is Discover material. -- (WT-en) Andrew H. (Sapphire) 09:51, 29 November 2006 (EST)

There are no street names in Siem Reap, it's a very bumpy 15-min drive on a rutted track through a village with naked kids splashing in puddles, but any driver will know. Signs at the museum proclaim that all mines have been defused, and I believe 'em. (WT-en) Jpatokal 10:01, 29 November 2006 (EST)

some quick help with bangladeshEdit

Hey! A small dilemma... I made a page for Kuakata... it's in Barisal Division, and aside from Kuakata and the city of Barisal, there isn't much else to see in that division, so I don't think it needs its own page. But on the Kuakata page I'm trying to get the isIn to still reflect that it's in Barisal Division... but since that page is a redirect to Barisal, it doesn't seem to take IsIn info... not that this is a major deal, but what should I do, just put Kuakata isin Bangladesh and skip the division? (WT-en) Cacahuate 06:49, 6 December 2006 (EST)

Right, disregard that, I just needed to purge cache and now it shows up fine... seems that redirects do still take isIn info... (WT-en) Cacahuate 06:51, 6 December 2006 (EST)

Golden Statue Boy reduxEdit

Just FYI, I de-slushed the Project:Discover nomination for the statue trivium you dug up. Yes, Ashgabat is an outline, and is likely to remain so for a long time (how are we ever going to persuade someone to go there and do fact finding?...). However, the Turkmenistan article is in reasonable shape and contains the trivium in well-written form, and IMO can be used as the reference. The guidance says the host article "should" be at Usable, but not that it must be, and Turkmenistan is close enough to Usable to be used, I think. We've taken Discover stuff from far worse, and it's not like the queue of facts is getting excessively long.

Incidentally, I endorse your sense of the incongruous with these two-bit despots.... -- (WT-en) Bill-on-the-Hill 11:46, 10 December 2006 (EST)

Actually, Turkmenistan has been on my to-do list for a while, and I've already figured out a way to get to neighboring Uzbekistan on the cheap. The main problem is getting a visa there, which is notoriously difficult... (WT-en) Jpatokal 23:08, 10 December 2006 (EST)

I think you may have had a beef with localizing listing tags and attributes. I want to investigate using localizing the tags for DE again. Would you please comment and share any concerns on Shared. Thanks. -- (WT-en) Andrew H. (Sapphire) 09:10, 15 December 2006 (EST)

What about Adamstown?Edit

Reading the current Off the Beaten Path, I note that most of the Pitcairn Islands' four dozen inhabitants live in the capital, Adamstown. Wouldn't that make almost an order of magnitude smaller than Melekeok? --(WT-en) Evan 13:28, 16 December 2006 (EST)

Pitcairn is not fully independent, while Palau is. (WT-en) Jpatokal 13:41, 16 December 2006 (EST)

I don't disagree with you, but you might want to know I did it that way because of this. -- (WT-en) Colin 23:05, 18 December 2006 (EST)

Just FYI, for once Our Favorite Troll happened to create a non-article for a place that I care a great deal about. If Tom hadn't restored the article, I would have. We really need to come up with a solution to that guy, because buried in the great pile of garbage that he creates are occasional articles well worth having and building into something useful. -- (WT-en) Bill-on-the-Hill 10:19, 25 December 2006 (EST)

See [6] and the end of that section. We are discussing a policy that will help with this issue. Your comments and additions are welcomed and encouraged. -- (WT-en) Tom Holland (xltel) 10:26, 25 December 2006 (EST)

RE: Singapore/RiversideEdit

I uploaded my edition of the modified map already, its very ugly, yes hope you can beautify it. Besides the white pencil marks cleaning up the look and the red stuff, there is some that links roads together. Hope you can find them. If the map is still the old version then I will email it to you. (WT-en) Terence Ong 03:31, 27 December 2006 (EST)
