Hi there, Openmindvoyage! Great to see you join our forces. Welcome to Wikivoyage! Hope you'll have a good time. I will not post a standard welcome message here, as you obviously know your way around a wiki, but feel free to ask any questions you might have. A quick heads-up; we try to create separate articles for places where travellers might want to go, or might end up for transit or business or otherwise. If there's no place to stay or really nothing to see, we might also just redirect to a nearby place. Would you say Mohan is a place where you might end up, and where there is at least one hotel? If so, and if you have any info on that hotel, even if it's not a great place, it would be nice if you could add it. Also, we never write in the first person, so we never use I, me, or we, because you're never the only author of an article. For more info on these things, have a look at Wikivoyage:Manual of Style, Wikivoyage:What is an article? and Wikivoyage:Tone. Cheers, JuliasTravels (talk) 14:09, 5 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi Julias,

I used “I”, first person, because when I was reading Wikitravel/Wikivoyage, I noticed some people do use “I” to write their travel information. And many times those articles sound much more friendlier than others. And also when I read the information/article based on somebody’s personal experiences, most of time I can understand the situation better and I feel more attached or like the article better than the robot writing style information. I thought that we are not writing for those custom-made ordinary travel guide. We are all non professional volunteer writers (The readers all know it). I just wanted to be useful to other travellers. On Wikitravel nobody ever told me that since I stated contribution, so I didn’t know. If my way of writing is not good/appropriate for Wikivoyage, I’ll dismiss myself from the website. And if my writing was inappropriate, I am sorry that English is not my first language.

PS: I wrote about Mohan border first on Wikivoyage, only because I met a traveller in Laos, last month, and he asked me to write information about the Mohan border crossing.

Hi Openmindvoyage, don't worry. I'm only trying to give you some information about our common practices and policies, since you're new here. It doesn't mean at all that your edits are not appreciated! We all have to learn a few things when we first join a community :-) Because our articles are joint efforts, so we create them together, we don't want to give readers the impression that there's only one single author. Fortunately, it's perfectly possible to write useful, good guides in a lively and fun style without using first person. Have a look around our Star_articles to get an idea of what our best articles look like. Anyway, don't be afraid to make any mistakes. Others will help write or fix when needed, and you'll learn about our common practices as you go. Of course, feel free to ask if you want to know more or wonder why we have certain guidelines. Oh and by the way, English is not the first language for many of us, so that's no problem. Thanks again, JuliasTravels (talk) 15:53, 5 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
