The Wikivoyage:Rail expedition is on track - Make Railroads Great Again!
editFriends of the railroad, Romans, countrymen -
I hereby inform ye that the Wikivoyage:Rail expedition has been launched. This is - as far as I am informed - without further delay, immediate. If you wish to join me, please do. And we can also discuss the direction which to take. Make railroads great again! Hobbitschuster (talk) 21:24, 4 July 2018 (UTC)
Merge discussion
editI say if anything, the merger should be done the other way round as this here expedition is active and its contributors are active whereas the other is archived. Hobbitschuster (talk) 01:12, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
- Agreed. Selfie City (talk) 21:37, 6 August 2018 (UTC)
Should S-Bahns be added to city pages?
editApart from the two very first ones, w:Berlin S-Bahn and w:Hamburg S-Bahn, S-Bahns are usually focused on going beyond the city and having a service pattern primarily for out of towners. They are (with the two noted exceptions) often very close to "normal" regional trains, including using the same rolling stock. I can see adding them to appropriate region articles, but there the question arises whether to include some or all regional lines. I fear adding them to city maps (other than the mentioned two) might introduce clutter.... Hobbitschuster (talk) 21:25, 13 July 2018 (UTC)
- I agree, both because the networks tend to be absolutely humoungous and also because in the city centre they usually converge onto one path, making it weird since stacking lines of different colors tend not to work well on dynmaps. Best to keep them on regional and if needed airport maps. MSG17 (talk) 23:23, 14 July 2018 (UTC)
Tokyo commuter rail
editThe S-Bahn discussion has made me wonder: how should we choose to cover Tokyo's commuter rail lines? As can be seen in w:Template:Tokyo transit, there is a gargantuan amount of lines with many different operators. What should we do with the lines? Put them only on regiona dynmaps? Only cover certain companies? Omit them entirely? MSG17 (talk) 23:26, 14 July 2018 (UTC)
- My knowledge of all things Japan is extremely limited so take this cum grano salis, but iirc the line between metro and "commuter rail" is quite blurred in Japan. Hobbitschuster (talk) 02:21, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
- I think it would be best for me to test what the lines look in my sandbox. MSG17 (talk) 16:30, 18 July 2018 (UTC)
