Talk:Australia (continent)
Latest comment: 3 years ago by SHB2000
I don't understand the reason for this redirect, and to me, the continent of Australia is Australia. Your input, please User:Soumya-8974? I love your enthusiasm, but I think sometimes, you're creating unnecessary redirect pages. I'd also be interested in input from some of our Australian users, such as User:Vaticidalprophet, User:LivelyRatification and/or User:SHB2000. Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:18, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
- The continent of Australia is not necessarily the country. It is the country plus the island of New Guinea, which is divided between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. Anyway, I have converted the redirect into an extraregion. --Soumya-8974 (talk) 05:22, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
- If it were still a redirect I'd have questions, but I think having it as an extraregion could be reasonable -- although I have to admit to kind of not getting extraregions. Inasmuch as extraregions are a thing we need, this looks like a reasonable enough one. Vaticidalprophet (talk) 05:29, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
- There's not really much difference between Australia the country and Australia the continent for most people, geography knowers notwithstanding. Australia is a part of Oceania in our current hierarchy, and so I don't think there's really any need to have an Australia (continent) page. --LivelyRatification (talk) 05:35, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
- That's my opinion. Vaticidalprophet and Soumya-8974, since we already have an Oceania article, what would be the point of an extraregion article about "Australia (continent)"? Is there travel relevance to it? Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:24, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
- The distinction between Australia the continent and Australia the country would be an important one to make in an encyclopedia. It is not a distinction that travellers are going you make. I support redirecting this to Australia or Oceania. Ground Zero (talk) 02:57, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
- I'd prefer to delete this as a term no-one is looking for and which will produce a result of "Australia" before they finish typing it. Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:11, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
- I'd be happy deleting it. Ground Zero (talk) 10:26, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
- Soumya-8974, I like your enthusiasm, but very few associate it with the continent. I very much support deleting this redirect. Most know what Oceania is, and is more referred to, than Australia. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 10:58, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
