Deletion of "Stay safe" section and warningbox about terrorist threats

edit

This site exists to serve the traveler, not to promote tourism for a country or locality nor to damage it. But I don't think we can ignore current advice from a country like the U.K. I would strongly suggest restoring the "Stay safe" section - there should be one, in any case - and the warningbox. If safety has increased lately, that should be mentioned in "Stay safe". Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:43, 28 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

PeterParker22, I would solicit your remarks before we take any action. I'd also like to solicit the views of User:TagaSanPedroAko, User:Sky Harbor and User:Pashley, who I believe are all on the ground in the Philippines. Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:49, 29 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
I'd say that, at least for now, the warning box should certainly be restored. The last incident mentioned in the box was Dec 2018 which was not all that long ago & AFAIK all Western governments still have strong adivisories against travel there. I'm in the Philippines a lot, have visited Midanao (see Talk:Mindanao#Travel_advisory:_update_or_downgrade?. It would not even occur to me to go anywhere near Cotabato!
There is a general question about what warnings we need & where. There are warnings at higher levels (, see Mindanao & ARMM). Is that enough? Or do we need warnings in city articles too? All? Or which? I think I'd prefer to see city mostly use links to the higher-level warnings; this reduces clutter in lower-level articles and reduces maintenance work since fewer warnings need updating if things change. That would be a fine solution, in my opinion. Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:12, 30 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
Agree. In reality, I'm not in the Philippines right now (I'm a local living near Manila, but currently away in Canada), but I can say I share the points mentioned above. Unless governments have updated their warnings for the Bangsamoro region, I still see no reason to remove that warning given the mall bombing mentioned is not too long ago. Cotabato City can be said to be safer and more peaceful than its surrounding Muslim-majority provinces, yet it's not good either to exaggerate its peacefulness, even after the 2019 plebiscite.-TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 23:52, 30 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
This looks like a clear consensus. I think the only question is whether to restore the warningbox and warning in "Stay Safe" or whether to create a briefer notice and link to the "Stay safe" section at a higher level in the hierarchy. The easiest thing to do is probably to just restore the deleted text, though, so unless someone would like to plunge forward and encapsulate the warnings with a link, I think we should restore the deleted text within 24 hours or so. Restored accordingly. Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:18, 2 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── I've restored the warning again after PeterParker 22 removed it without consensus a second time. Ground Zero (talk) 14:42, 28 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

And a third time. Ground Zero (talk) 01:56, 29 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
