Talk:Daintree Rainforest
reorganising this article
editLong rant coming.
I must say, I think I messed up this article so badly, but the version here before my edits to this article were no better either. Problem is, none of the listings here fall into the boundaries of the park. Wikipedia also seems to have screwed it up as well. At least, from w:Daintree National Park:
The park consists of two sections, with a settled agricultural area between them which includes the towns of Mossman and Daintree Village.
According to OSM, the boundaries between them are partially part of the park, and the others are not. It's confusing, but have a look at the map.
The popular Mossman Gorge is located in the southern part of the park
According to the official boundaries of the park, the Mossman Gorge is located outside the park.
Cape Tribulation also lies in the park
Again, the park's boundaries also are at the edge of Cape Tribulation, and Cape Tribulation is outside the park.
It seems keeping this article as "Daintree National Park" is confusing, and doesn't serve the traveler. And it's possibly why there's little info about the park itself.
Going forward, I suggest a new article should be created, something called Daintree Rainforest (note that this is not a move, merely so the Wikidata link on Wikipedia can be retained). Because it's something like the Grand Canyon. Very few go specifically to "Grand Canyon National Park", they go to the "Grand Canyon", unlike something like Yosemite where the national park takes up the entire attraction. The Daintree seems in a similar position. Most of the recreational facilities seem to be outside the national park but still in the rainforest. Any opposition before I create that article later this week? --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 05:11, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- Will do this weekend if there's no opposition. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 02:27, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
- I guess the other destinations will also need to be slightly adjusted as well. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 13:08, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
- As Queensland will be going up in the main page in a few months, I'll be starting this tomorrow. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 11:57, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
- Broadening the scope of the article and renaming seems to be the most useful thing for the traveller, so I'd support this. Ground Zero (talk) 12:55, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
- Pagemove done. Now just the OSM and the Wikidata items that need to be fixed. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 08:31, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
- Done that as well. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 09:11, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
- Interesting to note that what was once an outline due to a weird political border soon became a guide article when you get rid of political boundaries as per ttcf. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 03:21, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

Useful guide
editJust before I lose this link, here's a useful guide to the park. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 09:20, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
Are icecream factories a "see" or a "do" listing
edit- Swept in from the pub
Unlike scenic flights, here's a harder one. Reason I'm asking is regarding this edit I made on Daintree Rainforest. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 09:43, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
- Breweries and wineries which run tours are treated as 'Do', while those that simply sell their product or have a bar go in 'Buy' or 'Drink' respectively, so I'd say the same applies to food factories: 'Do', 'Buy', or 'Eat', depending on what the ice cream factory offers tourists.--ThunderingTyphoons! - I moved the listing to the #Do section. Thanks for your help :-) SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 12:29, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
- What can visitors do at the Floravilla Ice Cream Factory? Just sit in the garden and sample ice cream? How different is the visitor experience from that at the Daintree Ice Cream Company? Nurg (talk) 23:06, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
- Not sure. I didn't go to either of them when I was last there (2014). SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 23:15, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
- Ok, I sussed it out. It's an ice cream shop (you can't go into the factory), so I moved it to Eat. Nurg (talk) 02:02, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
