Municipalities

Some municipalities are listed at Grande_Rio#Regions and again at Grande_Rio#Understand. I'd say they should be listed at most once, or not at all in this article since we have articles on Baixada Fluminense and Grande Niterói where they are listed.

If there is enough to say about those that they could be reasonable articles, keep them. Otherwise make them redirects to sections of the Grande Rio article. I do not know the area, but my guess is they should be separate articles; even some of the municipalities within them might eventually get articles. Pashley (talk) 12:20, 23 September 2023 (UTC)

Hello! Thank you for the examples, I will read them with more calm later on.

Baixada Fluminense and Leste Metropolitano (informally known as Grande Niterói) are sub-regions of the metropolitan area of Rio de Janeiro (Grande Rio), so the articles about them are more detailed approaches to each one these regions, while the Grande Rio article provides information about the metropolis of Rio as a whole. I think an overview of the metropolis would be useful for the reader, however I have heard from the user Ikan Kekek that the 21 municipalities which make up this metro area are too many cities for one region, and I do not know whether Grande Rio could be an exception in Wikivoyage in this sense or not.

As for creating an account at Wikivoyage, it is possible that I do it later, but I have been a little busy these days, so I do not know how long I will be able to stay here. 187.111.14.17 15:12, 23 September 2023 (UTC)

Rio de Janeiro metropolitan core

Hi, Ibaman!

Thanks for your attention and your argument, but I'm not assuming the reader is an idiot. The problem is that oftentimes the entire main municipality - and not just its central zone - is considered the metropolitan core, even by some government bodies. This is a wrong approach to the metropolitan phenomenon, which can mislead some people. And it represents an even bigger problem in the case of Rio de Janeiro, where, unlike São Paulo for example, the central zone (the core) is not in the geographical center of the municipality, but in the extreme east of it. The entire West Zone and most of the North Zone of the municipality of Rio belong to the metropolitan periphery, without distinction from the municipalities of Baixada Fluminense and Greater Niterói in the metropolitan context. Therefore, I think it is opportune to clarify in the text what exactly the metropolitan core of Rio de Janeiro is and where it is located.

  Do you mean, the word generally used on Wikivoyage to refer to it? If so, reading some other similar articles here, I found words like "heart", "nucleus", "center", and "core", among others - and they all sounded the same to me. I have read WV:Tone, WV:Goals and non-goals, ttcf, Words to avoid, as it was recommended to me. But I did not find anything too "academic" in the article on Greater Rio, just detailed information about what this urban center is in the "understand" section, assuming the reader wants to have that information. I would like to have access to this kind of information about any metropolis in the world if I were about to go there. However, approximately one fifth of what I had written in that article was erased at once under the argument that it was "traveller-non-friendly". There was no presentation of clear criteria for reaching this conclusion, no objective and specific explanation of what was inappropriate there and why, and nobody listened to the opinions of other members of this community about the content of that article. There was only a unilateral arbitrary decision, based on a subjective judgment, that a large part of that text should be erased because it was supposedly "encyclopedic", "hard to read", and "boring". Honestly, I'm not sure if I should continue working on the articles of Wikivoyage, since I'm not sure I will be able to work without such obstructions. 187.111.14.164 22:38, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
