Remaining tasks
editI'd love to nominate this article for an Off the Beaten Path, but I'm not sure it's ready yet. The obvious remaining tasks are to put prices in the restaurant listings and create a map, so those are the missions of anyone who chooses to do them. Thanks so much to everyone who's made this as good as it already is! Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:41, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
Prices?
editOur Northern Lights article includes the text:
- In remote Northern locations where food, fuel and equipment have to be shipped in, prices on more-or-less everything can be very high. Major Northern cities tend to have better prices than more isolated areas, but still higher than in areas further South. Most travellers should buy much of their equipment before setting out; this gives more time for shopping, saves money, and avoids arriving in summer clothing when it is -20 outside.
Does this article need some comment along those lines? Are prices for food or lodging in Iqualuit high? Pashley (talk) 11:21, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
- I think we can count on prices for anything that has to be flown in being higher throughout the Arctic and on islands, and since Iqaluit is on an Arctic island....But I really couldn't say about lodging. I hope someone who knows will speak up. We need more prices in the listings in this article. Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:41, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
Mobile phones
editCell phone coverage in the North is sometimes not as straightforward as the rest of Canada, so I think it's useful info to include in this guide. I've taken a stab at providing the basics based on what I could find in Google, forums, etc., but if anyone knows more please add or correct what I've written! -Shaundd (talk) 05:23, 22 June 2014 (UTC)
St. Jude's Anglican Cathedral
editIt has been listed in "Cope" for years. Now there's another listing in "See". I don't think it should have two listings, and the language in both should be merged. I would particularly solicit comment from JakeOregon, who added the second listing, and Ground Zero, who added a duplicate thumbnail of the cathedral, which I removed. Where do you think the listing should be and why? Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:01, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
- Sorry. I didn't see the listing in Cope. I agree that there shouldn't be two listings, but this is an interesting building from an architectural standpoint, and it's in a town where there aren't many things to see. When I go to Iqaluit, someday, it's on my list of things to see even though I have little interest in the religion. Ground Zero (talk) 10:39, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
- Looking into my edits from March, I had added it in See, then realized it was in Cope, so deleted it in See and edited the Cope listing. It seems reasonable to move it to See based on what Ground Zero said, it's a interesting building in a small town, and the Wikipedia article refers to it as a landmark and tourist attraction in addition to its religious role.JakeOregon (talk) 18:46, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
- So merge the listings. We might still mention it in "Cope", but just as a name and pointer to its "See" listing. Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:07, 9 July 2019 (UTC)
