Beatles?

Perhaps someone knowledgable on the subject could add a section specifically devoted to Beatles themed tourism in Liverpool?

Taxi:

Whilst a taxi from Liverpool Airport into Liverpool is a reasonable option, a taxi from MANCHESTER airport is only likely to appeal to those with money to burn, or those landing in the middle of the night - it will cost at least £50 - ie $80.

Better to get the train, which goes direct from the station in the airport to Lime Street station in Liverpool, and spend the money you save in the pub when you get there.

Stay safe:

I may be exhibiting bias here but I believe the statistics show that Liverpool is safer than most cities of its size (1 million population including suburbs). The areas to steer clear of are the areas around Lime Street and the University AFTER MIDNIGHT - these are the areas for prostiution and drugs (unless that's what you're here for of course....)

Isle of Man pub chain

"UK mainland" is not correct terminology in comparison to the Isle of Man, as it isn't in the UK itself. Unless the phrase was implying that they had also set up outlets previously on the Isle of Wight, Orkneys or Hebrides.

Football

@ThunderingTyphoons!: Just wondering how we should cover this for this article and the Manchester article. From what I heard, it is common for Liverpool fans to engage in "Munich chants" when they play Man Utd, and likewise for Man Utd fans to engage in "Hillsborough chants" when they play Liverpool. Obviously, these are deeply offensive, but I also wonder if covering them would be bordering on Captain Obvious. The dog2 (talk) 18:46, 26 May 2021 (UTC)

I don't watch live football or attend any matches, so can't confirm or deny how common the chants are or state how obvious it is. Both teams have a worldwide fandom, but I imagine the chants come from those with a season ticket, who are much more likely to be from the North West to begin with and so don't directly implicate travellers. If the chants are as common as you say, then fans visiting from other countries will have heard them on the telly. What would you actually write about them? --ThunderingTyphoons! If this remains in the football ground (or football crowds near the stadium), I don't think it matters to travellers. In both cases the chants are only deeply offensive to those who know the background, and would go over the head of the traveller who just went to a football match as a "neutral observer". @ThunderingTyphoons!: Nothing much more than what's already there. Except perhaps a brief mention how the fans of both clubs use those chants at those games. That said, it certainly is not all fans. Here's an example of a Man Utd fan who unequivocally condemned Hillsborough chants by his fellow Man Utd supporters: [1], and I'm pretty sure there will also be Liverpool fans somewhere who do likewise with Munich chants.

@AlasdairW: Both clubs have huge overseas supporter bases. It's not like the Old Firm in Scotland, whose rivalry is very much local and doesn't get much international attention. And there are certainly fans of both clubs in Singapore who travel all the way to England just to see their teams play. But that said, I don't think the fans of those teams in Singapore are familiar with those chants. The dog2 (talk) 20:47, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
