Zoom map in

edit

The map should be zoomed in. Currently it shows mostly open sea and land without any features, with the Loviisa nuclear power plant slightly to the top of the centre. All the really interesting stuff in the Loviisa city centre is squeezed into a small lump at the top of the map. I've tried changing the zoom factor from 10 to 11 or 12, and that works for the zoom, but the offset of the map becomes wrong, centring on the open sea to the west of the nuclear power plant instead. Could anyone help? JIP (talk) 17:19, 9 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

I do not agree. In fact I now zoomed out one step to get most of the municipality to fit. Tell what you think about that version.
Zooming in on the centre leaves the reader ignorant about the extent of the municipality and its context and leaves some markers off the view. We shouldn't have gaps in our hierarchy, so this article should cover all the municipality, not only the centre. The centre is easy to recognise as a concentration of markers and zooming in is easy – for me at least.
If you do want to increase the default zoom, the solution to your problem is to add coordinates (without the "lat=" and "long=") in the now empty parameters.

I think the key factor here is that the article covers the entire municipality, not just the town. One compromise in such a situation is to include two maps, one of the broader region and one zoomed into the town centre. --Comment by Selfie City (talk) (contributions) 17:53, 9 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
I've done a zoom that includes all of the markers, but not the municipal boundaries, which I do not think are a necessary thing for a travel guide. This isn't Wikipedia. Ground Zero (talk) 17:57, 9 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
I think that solution is fine. It shows enough of the borders that a reader sees they can zoom out to see the scope of the article – which is important also for a travel guide, especially for one that you can edit. –LPfi (talk) 20:41, 10 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
