Currently this article is just a redirect to Rock climbing. But even as I'm not really familiar with mountaineering, it's self evident that there's more to the subject than just climbing; for example at Mount Kinabalu, Kilimanjaro, w:Ojos del Salado and w:Pokalde you can, without special equipment or climbing skills, get up to heights where AFAIU you're almost guaranteed to experience Mountain sickness and blizzards in the summer but above all amazing views and something to tell everyone about. I think it's a bit different from "ordinary" trekking in most parts of the world.

Secondly, we have a couple of articles about specific mountains and mountain ranges. I think they could be listed here as well. ϒpsilon (talk) 16:36, 9 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

I agree and changed the redirect into an outline. I think we should give some idea of what mountaineering is, and pointers to destinations were you can join expeditions without much advance skills, and to destinations you can dream about. But what else?
Even if we have experts on mountaineering (do we?) we should probably not aim for writing a guide for those wishing to learn the sport – mountaineering is not something you can learn from written advice even if we did it well. But perhaps there is some advice that, even with quite little detail, could be useful for tough "normal" treks in mountainous terrain (with or without guide), and for expeditions directed at people with little experience.
